a harsh whistle blew, signifying the end of the evening practice.
" alright, guys. good job today, i could tell you were putting your soul into it. go ahead and go home. "
jason announced, his green eyes lighting up with a sense of accomplishment. he'd managed to coach this team pretty damn well lately. especially clark. clark had been killing it lately, and he was pretty proud of him. as he was about ready to pack up and get going, he heard a firm voice by the fences. his eyes drifted over, and landed on the cheerleading team. he'd never met the coach personally, but he'd heard some things. finally, he was able to pick her out.

her blonde hair was tied into a neat ponytail, a few strands hanging in her eyes like little pieces of wheat. her eyes were brown, but a very harsh and dark brown, not an endearing brown. it reminded him of rough tree bark, not the soft fur of a fawn. her white t-shirt was fitting her enough not to hang down over her shorts, but it was far from tight either. her shorts were just a simple pair of black athletic shorts. and her looks certainly didn't match her attitude.
" katie, you need to keep up. you were staring at the football team, which is all you do every practice. unless you want off this team, you gotta step it up. "
her tone was almost tough enough to cut through the harshest rock. like a pickaxe, chipping away at the attitudes of others.

his eyes were glued to the scene, watching her speak to her squad.
" practice ends in an hour, and we've only gone over one stunt. ladies, do we want to embarrass ourselves at this next game? "
she asked seriously, those brown eyes of hers narrowing, almost in a predatory way. an angry way.
" no, ma'am. "
most of the girls muttered. some unsure, some completely locked in and ready. either way, she was going to make them step up their game, and he could tell. she stepped to the side.
" run the routine again, please. go through it three times, then y'all can go home. "
she spoke firmly, giving a quick snap of her fingers. her arms were crossed over her chest as she stood against the fence and watched them run through the routine. maybe he should stop and talk to her. it'd be a pretty damn interesting chat.

jason slowly walked over, past the cheerleaders that were practicing their routine, and then stood next to kai.
" teague. didn't football practice end already? "
she asked, though her tone had a bit of a bite to it. a little chuckle left his lips as he slightly wetted them with his tongue.
" yeah. everybody went home already, but y'know.. cheer practice seems to be dragging on a little late. "
he watched as the girls wrapped up, grabbed their bags, and all rushed off the field. she nodded slightly, tapping her clipboard with her fingers.
" yeah. they've been slacking off a lot. mostly paying attention to the football players. "
a little smirk was left on her lips, but she cleared it a moment after.
" anyway. seems like there's a good bit of equipment left out. need some help putting them back? "
she asked, finally pulling her hair down. she slipped the hairtie onto her wrist and brushed her fingers through those waves of hers. jason slightly chuckled, his eyes slightly trained on her.
" well.. i wouldn't object. i'd appreciate the help. "
he spoke finally, tearing his eyes slowly away from kai. she had a point.

so kai helped him pick up a few of the things from practice, some uniforms and such. she smiled quietly, walking back to the locker rooms with him.
" so, how're you liking smallville so far, huh? "
she asked with a little chuckle. jason slightly smiled, nodding a bit.
" yeah, yeah. it's been pretty good coaching this team. they're a little distracted, but clark, he's a firecracker. "
he spoke with a nod. she slightly laughed.
" oh, god, you're not lying. the team's pretty good. but clark, he's a damn good replacement. you don't seem like a bad coach either. "
she spoke, tossing the uniforms and such into the laundry basket.
" don't seem like a bad coach? damn.. you're honest. "
jason joked, a sly grin creeping up onto his lips. a little laugh passed her lips, and she nodded slightly.
" mhm, i'm honest. not too honest, but honest enough. "
she spoke with a joking matter-of-fact tone. the two of them seemed to be doing pretty good in their respective ways. she was a good cheer coach, and he was a good football coach. they didn't seem to be getting along too badly, either.
" well, good luck at the game on friday, teague. "
she spoke finally, about to head out. he smiled quietly.
" good luck to your team too. "
