The bird always waited for the cat to come to the tree to talk. The bird loved to listen about the every day life of what happens beyond the birds tree.
The cat arrived one day and decided to speak its thoughts. "Bird why don't you fly away?" The bird looked towards the cat surprised by the sudden question.
"I am unable to fly because I am afraid of falling and I haven't been taught I was born in winter, my family couldn't take the nest with them so they flew away for winter leaving me here. I don't blame them I would rather them stay safe everyone knows birds are meant to fly south for winter I am just one of the unlucky ones I guess but I don't mind it one bit." The cat looked at the bird sadly wishing it could have been changed; that it could have been different somehow. "There is still hope they could come back." The bird looked at the sky and then back at the cat. The bird whispered "if only that were true. They would have come by now." The cat then realised the bird had given up hope.
A few days passed and cat was no where to be seen the bird started to get worried not knowing what happened to the cat? Did he get run over by a car? Was he ill?
As the days went passed it started getting colder and colder and the bird had no choice but to stay inside the hole of the tree and look out to the world. It was getting close to Christmas and so the snow came.
After a few more days the cat finally appeared again the bird was so happy to see him.
"Cat where have you been I was so worried."
The cat looked surprised. "Worried? Whatever for bird there is no need."
The bird looked at the cat "why because I thought something bad had happened I was starting to think the worst."
The cat laughed at the bird "oh bird you are so silly you had nothing to worry about at all. After all I am a cat I have nine lives."
They got talking for hours until the bird suddenly thought to ask; "so where have you been anyway cat?"
The cat just shrugged "well I thought I would surprise you as Christmas is coming and all I got some birds together to teach you to fly"
The bird wide eyed now and still in shock said "cat I am fine just the way I am besides what if I can't fly?"
The cat then said "well you will finally be out of your tree and be able to learn a little better perhaps."
With that the bird let out a little chirp of laughter "I guess that's one way to look at it. What if I break a wing or something though?"
"Well hopefully it won't come to that stop doubting yourself before you even try... All you can do is your best after all."
The bird nodded and the cat returned home to sleep. Happy that he could help his friend that night his only wish was for his friends happiness and the hopes that he could help her find her family.
