I slammed my phone down on the counter, my fingers pressing into the surface until my knuckles went white. "No, no, no. Not now." I muttered, pressing my lips into a thin line. I looked up, studying my unbrushed hair as it fell down my face. I took a shaky exhale, lifting my hands off the counter and threading my fingers through my hair, pulling at it slightly. "This can't be happening." I whispered, my eyes burning, yearning to shed tears. I hissed at the tension in my scalp, the ringing starting to form in my ears. I looked back up at the mirror, watching as a tear slowly rolled down my cheek.

I released my hair, swinging open the bathroom door. My eyes fell on Joost's sleeping figure, still wearing his suit bottoms and button-up shirt, his face smothered into the pillow, soft snores escaping him. I slipped on my slippers, searching for a sweater. My fingers grasped one, and I pulled it over my dress. I turned, reaching for the hotel key, making my way to the hotel door. My hand was only a centimetre away when Joost's soft, tired voice hit me like a tidal wave.

"Juliette, come to bed." he said softly, his voice muffled by the pillow. I took a shaky breath, looking over my shoulder.

"I-I can't." I said shakily. I watched as he lifted his head from his pillow, his hair messy, his brows knitting together in confusion. He blinked a couple of times, trying to focus on my face.

"What are you doing?" he asked, pushing himself up so he was sitting on the bed. I looked at him, another tear rolling down my face. I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.

"Juliette?" he asked softly, getting off the bed. My eyes widened as I realized he was walking towards me.

"I-I'm sorry." I said, swinging open the door and slamming it shut behind me. I ran down the hallway, hearing the door open again and his faint voice calling out to me.

I reached the elevator, pressing the button repeatedly, hissing in annoyance as the panel displayed 'G'. This would take forever, and Joost would catch up to me. I ran a frantic hand through my hair, my eyes focusing on the stairs. I pushed open the door with a shove, the sound of Joost's footsteps echoing in my ears as I ran up the stairs with newfound energy. I needed an open space, I needed somewhere to breathe.

The corners of my vision blurred as my ears rang. I kept going up the stairs, my run becoming a slow stagger as the weight of the baby started affecting me. The pain in my lower back was excruciating as I made it to the final level. I sighed a sigh of relief, pushing open the roof door. The cold night air slapped me in the face as I stepped outside, wrapping my arms around myself for comfort.

I stumbled to the edge of the roof, the city lights twinkling below. My breaths came in ragged gasps as I tried to steady myself, tears streaming down my face. The reality of Leon's threat and the fear for my child's future overwhelmed me.

"Why now?" I whispered to the night, my voice breaking. "Why can't he just leave us alone?"

I heard the roof door creak open behind me, and Joost's voice, filled with worry and desperation, called out. "Juliette, please, talk to me."
