The start
Julia's POV
Be calm, stay calm. Everything's gonna be fine. It's just a job.
My dream job.
No, I said stay calm"Miss Aguillar, welcome" said a well dressed man, sitting behind a wooden desk in a fancy workroom."Good morning" I said, even if it was two in the afternoon.
All that place, from the leather bound books on the shelves of the big library to the carpets on the floor and the chairs, was showing how this man, Luckas Carrel, won in his life. Even if he was just a writer, The New York Times Bestseller author, precisely. And I got the unbelievable opportunity to collaborate with him on his first graphic novel.
"Thank you for taking time to meet me"
The man got up from his chair, and looked at me from all his 6'3''. His platine hair were shining in the sunlight and his blue eyes of a very light shade, looked almost translucent.I couldn't help but stare at him. He had his back to me, so I won't miss any of it.
How his black suit perfectly shaped his large shoulders, how his muscles rolled while his hands were pouring two glasses of wine...
Stop Julia, he's your boss !
Not boss, actually, more partner...
It's the same !I shook my head to clear my thoughts. It isn't neither the right time or place for these.
He turned back and handled me one of the two glasses of wine. It's one of his habits, always offering a drink to his guests.
"I thought aknowledging you that you had the job by e-mail would be enough," he said while taking a sip of wine,"so I could spare you the deplacement."
"No, it didn't bother me that much," I exclaimed, tacking a sip of my own drink."I live nearby and I wanted to thank you myself."
Carrel nodded and sat back on his leather chair, asking me to do the same.
"First, I'd like to-" I started.
"I know, about the work the deadlines etc.," he cut me."I prefer live working so I could see my novel take life in front of my eyes. We should adjust our plannings according to this."I nod, taking mental notes of all he was saying.
"You can come here or we can meet somewhere to work," he continued,"my book is already finished and so you will have a lot to work on", he took a sip of wine,"We must have at least two sessions a week, but you are free to work on your own."
"What about the credits?" I asked.
"Of course you will be credited, and as this book will be auto-published, you'll be taking 5%, at least," he answered.
5% from benefits of Carrel's books can seems not too much, but it can be more than 10,000 dollars.
10,000 per book. I'm gonna be rich !Carrel smiled at my sudden expression, and I felt embarrassed. I soon regained my seriousness, even if it was just a facade and the truth is that I wanted to jump everywhere.
I cleared my throat. "I brought with me some designs, according to the few chapters you sent me, and I wanted to know your opinion on them."
I took out my tablet from my backpack and opened my files.
And that's how I spent my afternoon.
Working.
