In a small coffee shop on the edge of London, a young man by the name of Harry Potter settled himself into a chair. He ran a hand through his unruly jet-black hair, his emerald green eyes tired and drooping.
Harry was exhausted. He'd spent seven hours in a meeting trying to comprehend statistics, charts, and graphs all at once. It was unbearably boring, and incredibly impossible to remember everything the fast-talking salesman had said.
His best friend, Ronald Weasley, had recommended the coffee shop to him. He had mentioned his sister worked there, and she'd be happy to give him a cup of warm coffee as a pick-me-up.
Harry looked around the shop. It was a warm place, the kitchen bustling and the to-go line long. Too long for Harry's taste, so he sat down at a table. The legs were a greenish iron, the top a light-colored wood. The walls were a creamy color. The borders next to the trim had many different coffee cups upon it along with things written in what looked like Italian.
Harry took a deep breath, the sweet yet bitter aroma of the boiling coffee filling his nose, soothing his frayed nerves.
"Good evening. What would you like tonight?" came a warm, preppy voice. Harry looked up, and his green eyes met sparkling brown ones. She had long, straight red hair that seemed to shine even in the dim lighting of the coffee shop. Freckles littered her flushed cheeks, a white apron hugging her curves. It had to be Ginny, Ron's sister. They looked very similar.
"Er - you're Ginny, right? Ginny Weasley?"
"Last time I checked," said Ginny, grinning cockily. Her attitude alone was enough to cheer Harry up.
"Your brother, Ron, is my friend. We work together," said Harry quickly, not wanting to seem like a creep.
"Oh, you must be Harry then. Ron has told us all some pretty comical stories about you," Ginny grinned. "Now, what would you like to order?" she added, back to her professional manner, her pen poised over her notepad.
"Er - just a coffee. Black," he said, slightly caught off guard by her sudden change in demeanor.
"Rough day, then?" she asked, smiling brilliantly at him.
"Yeah. Seven hour meeting with a cheap salesman. I don't even remember what we were all there for in the first place," Harry said, shooting a small grin back at Ginny.
"Oh, that sounds just lovely," she said sarcastically, laughter underlying every syllable.
"Hey, you go through that, then you can laugh," he said, pointing a finger at her.
"Well, it sure sounds better than listening to angry customers yell at you because their coffee is taking too long," she winced at the memory.
"What'd you do?"
Ginny threw her head back, laughing. "I told him to go somewhere else if his time was so important to him. I might've added a few choice words in there, but you get the general idea."
This time, they both laughed. It was nice to laugh, Harry hadn't done that in a long time. Too long of time, he realized. Harry was enjoying speaking to Ginny. She was a wonderful person to talk to, and the perfect person to make him laugh.
He looked up to answer with a sarcastic comment, but Ginny had disappeared into the kitchen. He could just make out a long, beautiful mane of red hair whipping around the corner.
Her hair wasn't the only thing about her that was beautiful. Her entire personality was beautiful. She was beautiful, too. Harry shook the thoughts from his mind. She was his best friends' only sister, after all.
A tall, burly man with his long, thin brown hair in a hair net handed Harry his coffee.
He wondered why Ginny hadn't brought it. He went to take a sip when he saw the lipstick on the cup. Feeling the heat rise to his face, he looked into the kitchen. Ginny was standing there. She winked a gleaming brown eye and disappeared into the kitchen.
Harry could have sworn his heart skipped a beat.
