I stood there as slow music started playing from the big ass speakers beside the stage. The colorful lights filled my vision as I leaned against the fence anticipating the lyrics of the song I never heard. Then I saw him. As handsome as ever with his wavy hair, chocolate brown eyes and a well pronounced jawline. He wore a navy blue formal shirt with loose top buttons and black pants. His clothes were as dark as the night, making him stand out even in the darkness.
A voice from the speakers caught my attention. The band El Aumentos lead singer. His voice was mesmerizing. I have officially became this guy's fan. But it wasn't enough to distract me completely from this guy.
Why is he roaming around right in front of me?
His eyes met mine. A small smile tugged at his lips as he lifted his hand in 'hi' gesture. Before I could gather myself and say hi in return, he turned around and walked away. Quite the busy man. I sighed in a mixture of dissapointment and exhaustion.
The first time I saw Akshith was at the beginning of my college study. The beginning of the semester.
I was on my way to the canteen with six of my friends. We heard someone call out to us. I saw a group of people sitting in some benches. It was some of the seniors. Aadharsh, Nandhini, Maya and I managed to escape by walking away as if we didn't hear anyone. The beginning of a new academic year in college is, of course, the season for hazing or ragging. Whatever people call it. The other three weren't so lucky. I turned back around to look at them. There he, that guy, was staring right back at me. I immediately turned around ahead and walked faster.
Later, they came back to the canteen. Bhargav saw us first and lead the others to us. Suchi sat beside Nandhini while Bhargav stood still in front us. He looked between me and Aadharsh. "How could you leave us like that..." he whined while pouting a little. "Shut up, Bhargav. Now sit here", Michael said while pointing at the only empty seat beside him. "What did they even do?", Nandhini asked without showing much curiosity. Suchi was the first to answer her, "Nothing much. Just asked us to sing for them." Maya and I looked at eachother. "That's it?" Maya querried. "Nothing else?", I added. "Yeah, they seemed pretty nice too", said Michael. "You talking about the senior girls?", Aadharsh teased. "Yeah. Most of them", Michael shrugged. "Most of them didn't speak much to be honest. One guy and two girls." My thoughts went back to the guy who met my eyes. I took my phone out to text Andy.
Did you come back from the trip?-
-Yup.
When are you coming to college?-
-Why are you so impatient? I already said 'Monday'.
Today is Monday.-
-....
-Sorry, didn't realise. I will come tomorrow.
🤦🏽♀️ Fine.-
I don't know what to do with her. Andrea, AKA Andy, is my bestfriend since 5th grade. Even after all this time together, she still manages to surprise, or rather, shock me. We went to the same school from 5th to 10th. Later, we studied inter (11 & 12 grade) in different institutions. We reunited again in college. It's been a week since college started. All they conducted the entire week was introduction programs. Today is the day the classes had official begun and the day she was supposed to come. I managed to make some friends thanks to Nandhini's efforts. Speaking of which, Maya, Nandhini, Aadharsh, Andy and I shared the same schedule while Suchi, Michael and Bhargav's were different from ours.
The shuffling in front of me caught my attention. Oh, this guy is kinda cute. He must be an upperclassman. He glanced at me. Realising I have been caught staring, I quickly averted my gaze. Ah, Aadharsh also saw it. He gave me a look then gestured to my lunch. I pushed my box towards him in confusion. He pushed it back, "Eat. Then continue your sight-seeing". "Shut up", I pouted and continued to eat my lunch without raising my head again for the rest of the lunch period. I sighed mentally.
"No one in this college looks good enough", Maya exclaimed sadly while we were on our way back to the class. "Good enough for what? You?", Aadharsh said at the same time Nandhini teased her "Do you look good enough then?". I chuckled at Maya's annoyed face. "You and this guy might be the same in that regard", Suchi commented while pointing between Michael and Maya. "Hey, I am not that bad", she frowned her face for being compared to Michael. We all turned to Michael to find him struggling for words, opening and closing his mouth like a fish. Bhargav nodded, "That's right. She doesn't go around flirting with everyone in sight." "Hey!", Michael shouted at Bhargav. Everyone around turned to the sudden burst of sound, they were peeping at us laughing hard at Michael's devastation.
I controlled my laughter as I became aware of our surroundings. Everyone ignored us and then turned back towards what they were paying attention to previously. Well, everyone except the senior who called us over, he stared at us for a little longer before turning back to his friends. Was it just my paranoid self or was he staring at me?
We were back to the class except Aadharsh, he said he was skipping the class. Few of the students were on their phones while others payed attention to our English professor. My thoughts went back to that senior. I shook my head to get rid of the thoughts. "Hey you, last fourth bench. You got something to say, girl?", the professor said with a loud voice while pointing at me. I immediately straightened in my place and shook my head. "Then could you please pay attention." she said while giving me pointed look before continuing with the lecture. I had to grab her attention on the first day. Shit.
