CHAPTER 4: PRESUMPTION OF INNOCENCE

Charlotte's POV

This was the day that my dad hands things down to me and all I can think about is what the hell happened the other night. My memory was still a blur and I can't remember anything. The kiss that Engfa tells me doesn't even exist in my memory. I sighed as I kept walking down the hallway to my dad's office. The employees greeted me when they saw me and I would smile at them knowing that all of them are doing their jobs well. I'm still hoping that the blank spaces in my mind get filled because it's fucking embarrassing. I reached dad's office; I took a deep breath before I pushed the door open and entered.

It's quite frightening to be sitting in the chair my father once sat. It's intimidating. It never came to me that I'd have to take over this early. I was expecting that dad may step down late, like maybe his 70's but I guess this is one of those "you shouldn't expect anything situations" because he's stepping down at fifty-five. I let out a sigh and looked around the room. Pictures of him with his top clients sat on the shelves by the wall opposite his desk. I even saw Mr. Waraha and two other girls. I tilted my head, curious. I stood up and walked over to the shelf, specifically to where that picture was located. Beside Mr. Waraha was Engfa and another girl. She didn't look like her mother, they looked more like sisters.

The door swung open that made me jump, the frame slipped off my hand and turned quickly to see who came in. "I'm sorry for startling you..." My father.

"Dad..." my heart was racing in my chest and then I looked at the photo to the floor. Glass were shattered, and the frame came apart. I bent down and slowly took the photo as to not prick myself with glass. "...Dad..." I stood up slowly and walked over to him. "...who is this?"

I handed him the photo and he looked at it carefully. He had some other files in his hands. He let out a sigh and looked at me. "I am going to need you to sit down for this." A confused look spread through my face when he said that.

I nodded and sad on a chair facing my father. He set the photo along with all the other files except for one. He handed be that envelop and sat on the edge of the table looking at me and waiting for me to do something. I accepted the file and looked at it then my dad a few times. "Should I be doing something?"

"Open it."

The file said 'Faye Malisorn-Waraha', my eyebrows furrowed in pure confusion, my brain still trying to put two and two together. "Waraha?" I looked at my father as the pieces of the puzzle come together. "She's Engfa's sister?"

He nodded and stood up walking around the table so he could sit on his chair. "That's a 5 year long case."

"What happened? Where is she?"

"Faye's alive if you're wondering. She's locked up for fraudulent acts against her father, their family and the company." He started as he leaned back against the chair. "Mr. Waraha had entrusted her most of their company. Knowing that she will one day run it herself. Little did Mr. Waraha know that Faye was actually going behind his back and was sharing information about the company to their rival. During such time, the company was also threatened by one of his trusted employees. So he didn't want to make the problem bigger and decided to lock his daughter up."
