"And then Ty laughed!" I exclaim. "It wasn't the nervous or confused type, either. He heartily laughed at my joke!"
Dakota, my younger sister, nods, a bored expression on her face. She tilts her head towards the TV expectantly, waiting for me to turn the volume back on; I had to mute it because she had to hear my story about Ty!
"I'm almost done," I reassure her, "I just have to tell you about the time Ty and I danced and sang to our favorite songs in the rain-"
"I already heard that one, Brielle," Dakota says in an annoyed tone. "And if you don't turn the volume back on, I'll do the unthinkable and get up to turn it on."
"Just wait a sec! I know I didn't tell you about my totally embarrassing accident when Ty-"
"Ty, Ty, Ty!" Dakota whines, twirling her short brown hair with her fingers. "Everything's always about this Ty dude. I think I'm gonna puke the next time I hear his name."
"It's just that Ty-"
"Ah!" Dakota groans loudly. "Someone make it stop!"
I pout at her. "You make it sound like I talk about Ty all the time."
"You do!" she persists, then she rolls off of the couch and crawls toward the TV. "I can't believe I'm doing this," she mumbles.
I glance outside, distracted by my golden retriever Sammy. He runs around outside in the yard, stepping over fallen leaves and startling the birds sitting on the fence. I smile at him, thinking about how playful he was, especially around Ty.
