The big test was only a week away. I slumped my head into my hands as c/n rambled on and on about biology or something science-y. Having c/n join my study group was insufferable. For the last three years, me and him have been arguing over who won that last mark, or whose presentation was better. Worst part of it was that it didn't take long for him to assume the position of group leader. And having to see him every single day for the next YEAR didn't help in reducing the arguments. I looked over at him, enthusiastically talking about hydrogen bonds and couldn't help but smirk at how passionate he was about the most boring thing on earth. The rest of our group members, including my best friend, noted down his every word and nodded eagerly as he blabbered on and on and...

"What do you think, y/n?" C/n broke me out of my trance, staring at me with his eyebrow cocked as they all waited for my answer. He walked over to me and leaned over me.

"Hm? Any thoughts?" He whispered into my ear. My cheeks warmed up.

"Um... I think I agree?" I stammered anxiously with his eyes burning holes into mine.

"Great, you and I will clear up and set up the tables for the next meeting in here." I sighed deeply whilst everyone around me filed out of the room. Bsf/n mouthed a 'Sorry' at me as she hauled out of the room. C/n had already started to collect all the empty paper cups from the table. His eyes flickered over to me.

"Gonna help?" he asked, waving a cup in my direction. He grabbed my hand and pulled me up from my seat as I groaned. "C'mon, princess, there's work to do. We can't all be as hardworking as I am."

Tentatively, I stacked up the remaining cups- rolling my eyes at his conceitedness. C/n brought out his phone and started playing f/m to cut the sound of silence.

"I didn't know you listened to f/m, they had such a great last album, right?" I asked him.

"Meh, I prefer their older stuff to be honest." He whispered.

"That's because you have terrible taste in music. You have terrible taste generally." I teased.

"I think I have pretty good taste in people. I mean, I think you're pretty." Without missing a beat he looked up at me and winked, chuckling quietly as he swept up the last of the crumbs. "No way, I've stunned the great and mighty y/n into silence?" He said as he picked up my coat and handed it to me. C/n put on his own heavy coat and scarf, looking adorably cosy.

"Shut up, you're so big headed." I mumbled whilst trying to cover up my smile.  As I pushed open the heavy door, I was greeted with torrents of rain lashing down from the grey, overcast sky. I had lent my umbrella to bsf/n! C/n suddenly popped up an umbrella and held it above us both. Ugh... Of all the people to share with it had to be him. I cautiously walked with him at the edge of the umbrella, half in half out before he put his arm around me and pulled me closer to him- sheltering me from the rain. His arm remained around my shoulder. "You might as well get used to it. It's a long walk." he said. Following suit, I put my other arm around his waist, putting my hand in his pocket as we walked together.

We brushed arms as we walked, talking about anything and everything as the rain drummed the ground around us. I began to shiver with my wet coat getting colder as we walked.
"Hey," c/n said whilst pulling off his scarf, "I can't let my only worthy rival get sick." As he gently tied his scarf around my neck and slipped my cold hands into his warm hands, I couldn't help but look at him in a new light. Where I only used to see an annoying opponent, I now saw a kind and caring- and admittedly very attractive- c/n.

It was only when we reached my front door that I realised that our fingers were still interlocked. Hastily, I unwound our hands and took off his scarf to return it.
"Thank you... I guess." I snarked sarcastically.
"Keep it." He smiled, pushing my hand back towards me with a caring light in his eyes and a smile line I hadn't seen before creasing on his cheek. My heart stung as he turned away and walked away from me.
"C/n, wait!" I called, jogging after him in the rain. He spun round and I held the collar of his coat.

"I think I like you a lot more than I hate you. And I was pretending to hate you because- I have a teeny tiny crush on you."
He gleamed at me, wrapping me up in his arms and letting the umbrella fall to the ground as we embraced in the rain.
"I knew you had a crush on me, my pretty little nemesis." He giggled.
I cupped his flushed face, gently kissing him as he held me tightly, raindrops falling on our faces and the cold wind nipping at us , but the warmth of his soft skin made me forget all about our surroundings . How could I ever focus on the test study sessions now?
