It was dangerous. They knew that the whole ministry knew that. Dangerous that a child and put in a proper school.
Well- let us rephrase- normally, not a problem. Especially now with over crowding, there really anywhere for them to go.
Children are usually homeschooled until they go to Hogwarts. But when your parents are against the whole school thing (three guesses why) then you they way they want. It ... proper. Mostly impractical.
Beckett learned about dragons by hatching them illegally. He himself was illegal- or he thought he was. There were no pictures of him on the walls. No trace of him. He wasn't born in a hospital, there are no record of him existing. When he was younger it would bother him, but he's 15 now. There shouldn't be much that surprised the raven-haired boy.
So why? Why did his hands shake as he held the wax sealed letter in his hands. The owl who brought it to him have a quizzical look as if to say, "Are you going to open it?"
It said his name on the back in neat cursive,
Mr. Beckett
Hut in the Middle of the Forest
The fact that it had such an obscure address means that they just now found him. This owl looked for how long? What was his father going to say? But to learn, to really learn magic, actual spells and incantations that his own family couldn't teach him. He wanted to. Desperately. He wanted to be able to at least try.
His father though...
After Carter left it's been hard. Carter had gone to other countries to do the same thing. To learn. To branch out. Meanwhile Beckett has been here trying to be everything his father needed and more. For once he had a selfish thought. For once. He wanted to leave and felt trapped.
"Ah-" he gasped in pain as the owl nipped his finger. He hissed at the cut and closed his hand to a fist to put pressure on the bleeding. "Alright, alright." Beck gave the bird a glare with his dull blue eyes, they looked akin to denim, except for when he wears green. Then they look greenish.
He popped open the wax sealed envelope before he heard his father's foots steps a moment too late. "What's that?" The gruff man asked wearily looking at the letter. He knew.
Beckett swallowed and lifted it to show him the back. It didn't even have a last name how did they find him.
"Oh..." the man said softly then looked down. Beckett's heart ached. How could he leave him?
"I- I won't if... you don't want me... to." Beckett found the words hard to say out loud. The man studied his son for a moment, a longing in his eyes. He didn't want Beckett to leave. He didn't want to be alone. But he saw it in the boy's face, he needed to be somewhere else for a while. Without Carter there wasn't much of a buffer. There was also a money thing. He would need books. A better wand. Merlin - how much was that going to cost?
"You'll have to work for it." The man said sternly.
A look of shock came over the boy's face. "You mean- I can go?"
"I would prefer if you came home for holidays unless you are doing extra study programs."
"But- you're saying I can go right?" Beckett asked again, the hope in his voice rising.
"I want a letter once a week if you can manage."
"What are you going to do?"
"Don't worry about that," his father replied in a firm manner, "I want you to be yourself while you are there. let someone change you. And stand up for those who cannot protect themselves- "
"Dad."
His father looked up to see his son misty eyed. The man swallowed hard. "I'll manage. If I hear from you. I think I'll be alright."
A tearful smile came to the boy's face, and he hugged his father in a tight embrace.
"I won't let you down." He promised the man.
[A Note from the Author: And thus a fanfiction was born! But before anyone says anything I will not be using plot points from any mobile games. Though I will be using some info given from other sources (Like Marazion), thank you for reading!]
