Beckett woke with a hard shove from the bed and on to the floor.
"Get up!" He turned to find Quinn looming over him. She seemed to be in a sour mood, but he wasn't sure if it was him or someone else that she was mad at.
"Ugh, it's not you, just meet me in the dining hall when you're done we have defense against the dark arts first." How did she know that? How did she know everything?
"Your schedule is tacked to your bed post. She ripped a pit of parchment from the post and handed it to him." He stared at the paper, wondering how on earth it got there in the first place.
"Never mind how it got there just get ready." She called back to him as she left.
"What a woman." Payton groaned as he himself sat up from his bed, rubbing his eyes. "Did you get any sleep? You were passed out in your robes last night. I thought you were just resting but then you wouldn't respond." He chuckled a bit.
Beckett began undressing so that he could put on some fresh clothes.
"Woah what happened?" Payton asked in awe, and it was then that he realized it may not be normal for a kid his age to be littered with scars from dragons. Sure, they were traumatizing but mostly because he wasn't paying attention around dragons, which one really should do when caring for the beasts.
"Uh, my dad handles magical creatures from time to time. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way." He said with a small smile. He didn't want to tell the kind that his dad bred dragons. If it meant maintaining the population of the dragons it could help in the long run. But it was hard to advocate for creatures that everyone feared, a lot of people would prefer that the dragons die off, but being apex predators, they keep other creature populations at bay.
"Huh, well that's good to know." But Payton didn't seem convinced.
Beckett headed to the common room, where Quinn stood with her arms crossed over her chest, hip popped out like she had been waiting there for an hour.
"They're all waiting in the hall for us, let's go." She grabbed his arm and rushed down all sorts of halls and corridors. Beck was just dragged along by his housemate at this point, still half asleep from all the commotion yesterday. When they got to the hall, Beckett had to catch his breath. The whole group was already eating their breakfast and chatting away, Eli offered a wave to the other and the rest quickly looked to him, groaning.
"Why is she always right?" James complained.
"Because she's also a Ravenclaw? Duh!" Enn replied to him with a flick to his head.
Beckett felt a little guilty for letting the group down in a way, but he supposed that it wasn't him they were upset at. Quinn rolled her eyes and sat in between Enn and Eli, and Beckett, being wary of Enn, sat next to the latter.
"What is everyone's electives this year?" She asked, popping a grape into her mouth from the platter of fruit that was before them.
"Enn and I are taking care of magical creatures and muggle studies." Eli answered.
"But Enn... aren't you a muggleborn?" Quinn asked.
"And? I'll be an important asset to the class." Enn replied with a proud smile, "Don't want any of these purebloods getting my culture confused. Besides, it'll be my entertainment for the week."
"That hardly seems fair for the people actually wanting to learn just for your enjoyment." Eli grumbled.
Quinn looked to James and his friends and cocked her head to the side, "What about you lot?" She asked.
"I wasn't able to get into care of magical creatures, so I got divination instead." Parker replied with a sheepish smile, "Alaric said he would take it with me. I'm also taking study of ancient runes."
"I'm only doing it because you said you were upset neither of us would have electives with you." The Slytherin huffed out to his friend, face soured by the mention of his taking divination. "It's not like I believe in that crap."
"I'm taking muggle studies and divination." James sighed out, "What about you Beckett?"
"Care of magical creatures and muggle studies." He replied, there was an obvious reason for him to take care of magical creatures, and he just liked the idea of studying muggles since he never actually met them.
"I'm taking arithmancy and study of ancient runes." Everyone scoffed at Quinn as she said this, "What? What if I want to be a curse breaker or something like that? It's a necessary skill!"
"It's just so much studying, aren't you on the quidditch team and the defense club?" James asked pointedly.
Quinn shot him a look, "I have no idea what you're talking about. There is no defense club."
"Don't forget she sometimes attends the alchemy club and the ancient studies club." Enn chimed in with a roll of their eyes. Was Quinn even human? The amount of activities she did was enormous. But the more he thought about it the more he began to understand the logic in it. She wasn't just doing these things for fun. They gave her an in and a way out in case something isn't working.
"How many clubs are there here?" Beckett asked.
"There's a lot of small clubs for specialty interests, but the major extra curriculars are things like art and music both wizard and muggle variety. As well as the defense club, sports, etc. There's likely to be a fall fair coming up to check them all out." Eli explained, "Both me and Enn take the art club, you can stop by if you ever want to take a look." Beckett did know about some wizard art from paintings, and obviously walking around the halls he would see them move. He wondered what they would learn in that particular club. It seemed interesting to watch them at least.
"I might take you up on that offer."
However, now that he was awake enough, he began picking from the plate. Every now and again more students would trickle into the point where Quinn bid all of them farewell.
"See you in class." She called back to them before rushing off.
