We walk in silence, all i hear is the tap tap of her converse.

"So...what made you decide to go back?" She asks me curiously.

"Do you remember when we were around 10, way before my mum left and we were all close?" She frowns for a moment, thinking back.

"Yeah, i think so, when we used to go around each other's houses every weekend for food?" She asks, making sure we are on the same page.

"Yeah, I noticed you don't have any of the photos from that time anywhere. That's what I want to find" she makes an O shape with her mouth before smiling up at me.

"Okay!" She seemed to cheer up a bit.

"You will need to stay upstairs...the basement was a bit...unsafe" i tell her.

The truth was the floor dropped and all the concrete had cracked and fell through the wooden supports.

The boxes of all the stuff were on the metal shelf down in th basement.

"I'll pass you some photos if you want to go through the memories" i say as we walk onto the street.

The front of the house had the 'do not cross' tape still on it and i ignore it, grabbing the key from the small statue and unlocking the door before pushing it open.

I sigh at the state of the house.

Any ornaments were gone, probably smashed or taken as 'evidence'.

I pause as my eyes flicker to Sidney.

"Sid, mind going to my room, the smallest one, and grabbing the box and empty bags from under my bed?" She looks at me wide eyed.

"You don't mind me going in your room?" She questions, a slight blush on her face.

"I don't care if you go through my stuff, there is nothing weird as such in it, feel free" her eyes lit up as she runs upstairs excitedly.

She was curious about me?

Weird.

I turn my focus towards the basement door, glancing at the hidden shelf behind the paneling, I always wondered what was behind there.

I glance towards the stairs before feeling along the wood, feeling the edge and pulling slightly, it pops off.

I look at the shelf and find the key to the basement and a few others as well as a little metal safe.

I lift the safe, it wasnt that heavy.

I look at the number pad.

Lets see.

My birthday?

Nope.

Mums birthday?

Nope.

Maureens birthday?

Nope.

Sidney's birthday?

It beeps as it opens and I just stare at it incredulousy.

So you dont use your kids birthday but your nieces?!

I notice some jewellery, some cash and a strange leather case, which i open.

Thats a fucking gun!

I close the case again, putting it back down warily.

Why did dad have a gun?

There were also some letters which I decided to read when I was back home.

"Alex! I'm gonna throw the bags down, the box is on the stairs!" I hear a thud and see my two duffel bags land at the base of the stairs.
