Chapter 10

BLOOD WARNING

Jade roared fury at the forest.

She had to let it out.

The night sky was full of stars, and the forest loomed ahead.

Snowswirl had gotten away, and they were back camping at the cornucopia.

She picked up a pebble ontop of the cornucopia and hucked it into the forest. She twitched her tail and watched it hit one of the trees.

Jade sighed and rested her head on her claws. She was watching over the camp, and Cloud and amberheart snored below.

She was tired and mad. She didn't know how she let that stupid icewing slip through her claws, AGAIN. oh well, all it meant was that she could find another tribute faster.

She did particularly need to find and kill Charcoal, she didn't trust Cloud to kill him. Stupid skywing bonding.

She wouldn't hesitate to kill chalcedony if she needed to! Which she would, eventually.

Suddenly the capitol theme played, and Jade looked up. The capitol seal was in the sky.

She listened for a moment, then saw the one face.

Sandheart.

Huh, she didn't expect HIM of all tributes dead. She shrugged and listened and watched the sky go dark, illuminated by the stars.

Morpho sat guard again, in the cave.

They had found a cave on a hill overlooking the forest, and were camping in it for the night.

They watched the stars for a bit then glanced in the cave.

Again.

Chalcedony was sleeping, her wings pressed to her side, the vine bandage on her neck red and green. They smiled, happy that they got out of that tree and teamed with Chalcedony.

Now if only they could tell her how they felt.

Morpho went back to watching the stars. They were gorgeous, and a few aligned, making constellations. Morpho smiled, and flicked their tail.

They watched for a few more moments, then something tapped their tail.

They glanced back to see Chalcedony, the Starlight bouncing off her scales.

She sat down beside them, and also watched the sky.

"Hey." Chalcedony said to them.

"Hi. What's up?" Morpho asked, playing it cool, when in reality, their heartbeat was racing.

"Not much. Just woke up and decided I should take my shift." She replied, stretching her jaw.

They smiled and nodded. Chalcedony twitched her tail.

Morpho rested their claw on hers. She glanced down, but didn't pull away.

"Listen, chalcedony..." morpho began, unsure of how to continue this conversation. Chalcedony looked at them, her beautiful Green blue eyes reflecting the moonlight, a small scratch healing on her cheek.

"Yes?" She asked. Morpho blushed.

"Well, when I met you, after you got attacked by Frostleap in the bloodbath, i wondered if i should kill you.. "They looked away.

"But I couldn't. " They looked back. Chalcedony looked thoughtful.

"I always wondered that, I was such an easy target. i still am, Why DID you choose to team with me? I know you well enough to know you aren't THAT scared of the games.. You're super strong!" She said, making Morphos heart speed faster.
