The bright lights outside cast a lingering glow on the busy streets, as I slipped through the narrow alley behind Club Midnight. Today was a Friday and I do not want to squeeze through the thousands of paparazzi's that are crowding the front of the club, the air was thick with the mingling scents of the city, a blend of exhaust fumes and cheap perfume. I approached the heavy, unmarked door and nodded at Tony, the burly security guard who stood at the door.
"Evening, Elise," he greeted with a smirk, eyeing me up and down ,like always.
"Hey." I replied, flashing an awkward smile and clenching my purse even tighter to my body. Why the hell is he using my real name for, i hate the fact that he even knows it.
"Mind stepping aside, i need to get through, I believe I'm already running late for my set." I turned my head and stepped forward not giving him time to open either the door or his mouth, i swear one day he was going to be a problem, shaking my head and turning the knob i stepped inside,
The back entrance led to a world far removed from the gritty streets outside. The walls were lined with deep dark red velvet, with golden lines that make swirls across the walls, and the muffled throb of electronic music vibrated through the air. I adjusted my hoodie, making sure to keep my hair and face hidden until i could make it across the club to the changing rooms.
Club Midnight was the city's most notorious nightclub, a haven for the rich and powerful. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceilings, casting a glittering light over the marble floors. The men who frequented this place lived in a world of excess and secrets, not that i cared for any of it or any of them, only thing i wanted from this place was the money, shit was kind of rough at the moment, shaking my head not wanting to even think about that, turning towards the east side of the club i squeeze between a group of girls coming through the hallway, automatically my nostrils are filled with the scent of hair spray and a mix of smoke and expensive perfume.
Making my way across the changing room i take a seat in front of my assigned makeup table everything is clean and it seems as if no one touched anything, sighing i turned, lifting my bag out of the floor and looking up.
As I gazed into the mirror, I saw myself— a porcelain complexion, a girl with long, flowing golden hair with lighter parts that almost looked white, My eyes, a vivid shade of emerald green, and a small scar traced a line across my left eyebrow all the way down to my lower eyelid, a scar that was there to remind her exactly who she was, honestly thank god for makeup, because who would want to be with someone who has a huge scar across the side of their face.
Tonight has to be a good night , i need to at least make $1,500, my mom's treatment are getting more and more expensive, it got to the point that working here is the only thing that has managed to keep us afloat, i would love to continue going to school but unfortunately thats not in the picture anymore, at least not for now, its only me and my mom, and i will never abandon her.
Quickly putting my hair into a tight bun , making sure to not touch any part of my already setting makeup, i carefully unwrap my butt length dark red wig, moving it around the edges making sure it fits in the right places i clasp the final clip and swing my head backwards, looking at my reflection now is starring back, long red hair perfectly straightened, perfect bangs hugging my face making me look even younger, putting my eye contacts was the final touch , now starring back were brown hazel eyes, a complete different person, Rubi, my fake persona, I chose my fake name when i first started working here, you never know what type of creeps you will encounter.
