I sprinted to school, ran through the empty halls, with the tardy bell ringing into my ears. As I finally made it to history with my hair a mess, I open the doors to stares.
" Hey Iris, miss the bus AGAIN!" Charlie taunts.
" Wow, what a freakazoid." Becky whispers so the teacher can't hear her, but I can.
I try to ignore all the hurtful comments and made my way to my seat.
"Now you know , Ms. Iris, that this is the fifth time you have been late. Take a detention slip." Mr. Benjine muttered.
I trudged towards the my desk, slip in hand, wondering if my mom would even realize I would be staying late at school, for the fifth time in a row. You know what, probably not.
My mom used to be great. Everyday after school she would wait for me by the kitchen counter with a huge bowl of triple chocolate chip cookies. After we finished that hearty snack we would go to my room and watch endless marathons of Gossip Girl. Even when my friends came over, she was awesome to have around.
But all of the sudden something happened. My dad came home one day and he barely could breathe. You should have seen my moms face. It was red with tears and fear. We rushed him to the emergency room. They hooked him up to a IV and wheeled him to the one of the worst parts of the hospital. The cancer institute. They took some tests as my mom listened my dad's raspy breathing.
Apparently this had been going on for at least 3 months, we just couldn't tell. My dad also said that he had a bit of trouble breathing recently, but he didn't think anything was wrong. Boy, he was definitely wrong! And I wish he wasn't.
I finally got through the day, with people making fun of me then and there, but I didn't really care. I went home to my sad, lonely, dismal house.
