Babe had gotten used to not having his enhanced senses. The blaring had reduced significantly, and it was so much easier to breathe without feeling overwhelmed – that was until, his senses came back and knocked the air out of him. Somehow, this time round it was harder to get use to – every now and then, he had to slow himself down, so he doesn't lose himself in the fast-paced life.
But Babe was happy, really happy, he would take getting used to his senses again over not having his boyfriend by his side.
Boyfriend, the word still made him feel giddy. He realized that he did not get to bask in the warmth of having a boyfriend at all, especially given the circumstances at that point – revelation of truths, betrayal of best friend, the said boyfriend dying and coming back to him just in time to get rid of that one man who had made their life hell. It was a rollercoaster and Babe was sure as hell thankful he was off the ride. Now, that everything died down, the X-hunter family was slowly returning to their usual routine, it took them a while, but everything was seeming falling back into place – and yet, it was different, no one was hounding or lurking around – it was liberating, to be able to live freely like this.
With that being said, Babe was all ready to bask in his relationship with his boyfriend – yet it was currently on hold.
Alan had everyone training extra hard for the upcoming race season. Pete was still sponsoring them, but the loss of Way and Dean affected the team, and everyone had to be in their A game for the season. Babe was well Babe, so he was able to just train on his own, but his boyfriend and Kim, they were under the strict supervision of Alan – the captain not taking anymore chances.
With this training plan by Alan, Babe had barely spent time with his boyfriend – their sex life was not really affected – but the craving of some quiet time was quelling deep in Babe's heart and especially after the realization that he and his boyfriend have not gone on dates.
Babe had overheard Alan talking to North and Sonic about his and Jeff's date at the skating rink and not forgetting, the cute picnic that Alan had arranged for Jeff for his graduation. Charlie had teased him cheekily about never having done something like this for him, which he played off coolly but Babe had a sudden realization – they had never gone on dates; it was either the pub with the guys or their bodies against each other in their shared bedroom – date was something they had not experienced, and it was upsetting.
If he had asked his past self, Babe would have barely cared about dates, but ever since a particularly hot nerd had waltzed into his life, he was experiencing feelings that he did not knew existed – and somehow, he was thriving in them and craved for even more, the warmth that he felt growing in his frozen heart was addictive, Charlie was addictive.
"Well done, Charlie. The timing is good, and it was smoother this time round." Alan patted Charlie's shoulder as the latter removed his helmet.
Babe's attention automatically focused on Charlie, a soft smile gracing his lips as Charlie shook his head for his hair to fall into place, resembling a puppy, a very cute puppy.
The said puppy was now running over to him, lips stretched into a big smile, hands out to most likely find their rightful place around Babe's waist.
"P'Babe, did you hear, Uncle said I did good." Charlie's smile was contagious, and Babe's soft smile had automatically stretched itself to match his boyfriend's.
