His eyelids felt heavy as he struggled to open them, the harsh fluorescent lights above causing him to squint against their brightness. "Where am I?" Jax questioned to himself.
"Jax, it's okay," Ragatha whispered in his ear. "You're safe now. You're in the hospital. Everything is going to be okay."
Jax blinked a few times, allowing his vision to adjust. He noticed Caine hovering over him, a comforting smile on his face. "How did I get here?" Jax croaked, his voice hoarse from dehydration.
"Well," Pomni said. "It's a bit of a long story." She proceeded to fill Jax in on the events that led up to his hospitalization, including her own fainting spell and the subsequent chaos that ensued.
Jax listened intently, his eyes widening in disbelief as he heard about the commotion and confusion caused by his sudden illness.
As Pomni finished recounting the tale, she gave Jax a small smile. "I'm glad you're okay, Jax," she said sincerely.
Jax nodded, his heart warming at her words. He reached out and hugged her. The sensation of another person's warmth against her skin triggered a wave of nausea and panic within her fragile psyche.
As Jax pulled away from the hug, he noticed the sudden change in Pomni's demeanor. Her face had turned pale, beads of sweat forming on her forehead as she struggled to maintain composure.
"P-Pomni? Are you okay?" Jax asked, concern lacing his voice.
Pomni clutched at her stomach, feeling the churning waves of nausea threatening to overwhelm her fragile state of mind. "I-I need some air," she managed to say, before leaving suddenly.
Jax's heart sank as he watched her retreat, a sense of guilt weighing heavily on his shoulders. Huh. He decided to check up on her later.
