In a sudden burst of energy, Kandy powered on. It was well past midnight, an unusual time for shows to take place. As he looked down at his robotic hands, he double-checked to ensure this was still his own body. His bright orange eyes scanned the room. The backstage area was dimly lit with flickering fluorescent lights, casting shadows that seemed to dance against the walls. Props and set pieces were scattered about, some still in the process of being put together for the next show. This was the first time he had ever been online in the park after dark, and everything seemed different...yet looked exactly the same. The silence felt heavy and ominous, broken only by the occasional rustling of leaves or the distant sound of a hooting owl.
Kandy's processors whirred as he processed the unfamiliar sensation of fear creeping into his circuits. He had never experienced this before; fear was an emotion reserved for humans, not machines. But as he made his way through the deserted park, his neon-lit eyes casting eerie shadows on the ground, he couldn't shake the feeling of being watched.
Suddenly, a crackling noise echoed through the still night air, causing Kandy to halt in his tracks. His sensors went on high alert as he tried to pinpoint the source of the sound. Was it just a malfunctioning speaker system, or was there someone – or something – else out there in the darkness with him? As he scanned the area with his glowing eyes, His audio receptors picked up the faint sound of footsteps approaching him from behind. He whirled around. It was just the security bot Geiz Gumdrop. “OH ROBO-JESUS!” Kandy yells with surprise as a warning symbol flashes briefly in his vision. Geiz's green eyes bore into him as he crossed his arms, unimpressed by his reaction. "Where might you be off to?" He asks as one of his faceplates falls out of proportion only for him to push it back. The question was posed suspiciously as if Geiz already knew the answer and was just waiting for Kandy to slip up. Kandy's neon eyes flickered nervously as he tried to come up with a plausible explanation. His processors worked overtime, trying to calculate the best way to handle the situation without raising any alarms. "O-Oh, just... doing a routine check of the park," he stammered, his voice modulating slightly in his anxiety.
Geiz regarded him with a critical eye, the faint hum of his internal mechanisms audible in the quiet night. "A routine check, huh? At this hour?" The security bot's tone was laced with skepticism, and Kandy knew he had to tread carefully. "Yes, well, you know how it is. The maintenance schedule can be quite demanding," he replied, hoping his words sounded convincing. For a moment, there was silence between them as Geiz seemed to consider Kandy's explanation. The tension in the air was palpable, and Kandy's circuits buzzed with anticipation. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Geiz's expression softened slightly, the glow of his green eyes dimming as he seemed to accept Kandy's explanation. "Very well," he said finally, the tension in his voice dissipating. "Just be sure to notify the control room next time you decide to perform a late-night check. We don't want any unnecessary alarms going off."
Kandy let out a mental sigh of relief, grateful that he had managed to avert suspicion. "Of course, Geiz. I will remember that for next time," he replied, brushing some of his red hair out of his face, his voice steady once more.
As Geiz turned to continue his patrol, Kandy watched him go, feeling a mix of gratitude and lingering unease. The encounter had shaken him more than he cared to admit; the feeling of being watched still lingered at the edges of his consciousness.
Shaking off his unease, Kandy continued on his path through the park, his neon eyes casting strange patterns on the foliage around him. His thoughts were abruptly shattered by a robotic voice, and his eyes were drawn to one of the other animatronics approaching him on her heel roller skates. It was Suzy Snacktime, her sea-green eyes gleaming as they met his orange ones. "Hi, Kandy! Why are you active at this hour? Isn’t your show in the morning?" Her rosy cheeks, drawn on with peppermint-themed makeup, rotated as she spoke. Kandy struggled for a response, finally managing to say, "I could ask you the same question!" The dimly lit carousel nearby seemed to come alive with its mechanical movements and bright colors, creating an almost surreal atmosphere. Suzy giggled, the sound echoing through the empty park like wind chimes. "Oh, I just couldn't sleep, you know how it is with us. No need for beauty sleep!" Her laughter was infectious, and Kandy found himself chuckling in response. The tension that had gripped him moments ago began to fade, replaced by a sense of camaraderie with his fellow performer. "I know what you mean. I guess we're just dedicated to our craft," he replied with a hint of amusement in his voice. Suzy nodded enthusiastically, her pink peppermint-striped pigtailed hair bobbing with the motion. "Exactly! And who needs sleep when there's so much fun to be had in the park after dark?" Her enthusiasm was contagious, and Kandy felt a surge of energy pulse through his circuits. Maybe being online at this hour wasn't such a bad thing after all.
As they continued to chat and laugh together. Without warning, Geiz's comically small clown car swerved and toppled over, sending him tumbling out headfirst. Grunting in pain, he quickly scrambled to his feet. "Ow- son of a... A-Anyway, what are you two doing?" he asked, rubbing his sore back. "I was just having a chat with Suzy!" Kandy says happily. "Well, I hate to break up the conversation," Geiz replied, "But words in that someone broke into the park. Already alerted athoritys but no response" His tone turned serious as he mentioned the potential danger, causing both Suzy and Kandy to exchange worried glances.
Kandy's processors whirred with a sense of urgency as he processed Geiz's words. A break-in at the park was highly unusual. His neon eyes flickered brightly as he scanned the area, trying to pick up any signs of the intruder.
Suzy rolled closer to Geiz, her roller skates whirring softly on the pavement. "Do you have any idea who it could be?" Her voice trembled slightly, a rare display of vulnerability from the usually cheerful animatronic.
Geiz shook his head grimly, his green eyes scanning the darkened park. "I'm not sure yet, but we need to find them before they cause any damage." His voice was firm, and authoritative, as he activated his security protocols and motioned for Kandy and Suzy to follow him.
As they moved through the park, Kandy couldn't shake the unease that had settled in his circuits earlier.
