Routine.
A sequence of actions regularly followed; a fixed program. This word meant a lot to Ciara, it was the only thing she truly knew. All the days were the same, except today.
It started as usual with school and nothing sprung out of the ordinary until Ciara was walking home with her friend Emma. Ciara doesn't remember when it happened, but she became best friends with Emma sometime when she started school. She is glad her mother let her do that at least. Her mother is strict and she hasn't seen much but the walls of her attic... or better known as her room. What? You didn't think she would live in a basement, did you? Weird...
"Did you hear what I asked?"
Emma pulled Ciara out of the other world that was in her mind.
"Wait what?"
Ciara spoke realizing she hadn't heard what Emma had been saying ever since they started their walk home.
Emma smiled and giggled at her. She was not mad. She knew she was only really rambling in the first place, so she was fine with it. She moved her curly blonde hair out of her face as she spoke.
"I know I have talked to you about this multiple times, but they recently got in the news again with something big. Have you heard about the Elite Force?"
"No, I told you I don't keep up with the news."
It was a lie. She knew all about the news and the Elite Force, but she couldn't tell Emma that. It would reveal her secret. Her mother would ban her from school and never let Ciara do anything she wanted if her secret ever got out. So Ciara has to lie. It's to protect everyone.
"So you know the smart bionic one Chase? Well, it's rumored that he thought he fell in love with this one girl, but it turned out that she and her family were villains and shape-shifters. Her family is the one that caused the city power outage."
For Chase supposedly being the smartest man in the world, he was a very stupid boy. He fell for the oldest trick all villains know, which is to go after the most vulnerable part of someone. Sometimes it's family, sometimes it's friendship. But in this case, it was love.
How desperate could he have been?
Ciara thought to herself.
"He's the one who caused the blackout?"
She spoke, careful of her words.
The city has been in war between the Elite Force and the family of shape-shifters for a week. This is the longest-lasting villain the Elite Force has fought. The city has been in a total blackout with no power, but somehow their school found a way to open back up. The city was trashed and people walked around scared. Some even dropped out of school and they have not been seen anywhere. It's like they dropped off the face of the earth and in a way, it's like their town has gone into an apocalypse. Centium City has turned into a dystopian novel. Normalcy has changed which in turn changed Ciara's routine. It set her off, but she's trying to go on like normal.
"Well, personally, I would blame the shape-shifters."
Emma spoke in defense. She adores the Elite Force. There is not a bone in her body that could hate them, or just hate anyone in general. That's what Ciara liked about Emma. She was like a breath of fresh air compared to her secret life.
"He fell for their tricks though."
"I don't think it's his fault though. Can you imagine what being someone like him would be like? I bet being bionic would be lonely."
It is. Ciara thought.
A noise shuffled from behind them. This walk wasn't like the others. Something felt different. Ciara could feel a presence behind them, but there was not much she could do without exposing herself to Emma. She didn't have any time to think of another plan before she was knocked out.
