Darkness all around. A timeless void that expanded into infinity.

A formless figure looked up at the towering figure before it.

"Devine creator, there must be another way." the being pleaded. "I don't understand. He failed once already, why not move on to another.

"What was it I told you when I first brought you into existence?" The larger entity spoke calmly that resonated throughout the void.

"You said that true balance is not the absence of chaos, but the ability to find harmony within it. That each push has a pull, and each brings its own new beginning."

"This is just another new beginning," the larger entity said. "Trust in your nature, and the purpose I have bestowed upon you. It is when we achieve this balance, that we will be successful in our endeavors."

"Devine Creator, I do not doubt your judgment or the vast intricacies of your plan," the other entity started to respond. "It is the boy himself, that I doubt. He is merely a mortal and has failed in your previous attempt to write these wrongs and be rid of this calamity upon us. I fear that this will be our last attempt to see things restored as they once were.

"And yet, our fate is in his hands all the same," the larger entity interjected. "I believe that with true balance, this boy will be the one." The smaller entity paused as if it was thinking over their plan.

"If it is the Devine Creator's will then I will see it done," it replied. It then disappeared from the void leaving the other entity alone with its thoughts.

"It is done. Our final gambit. There is no turning back now. It is all up to him."

"Kenji... Kenji!"

"What... huh?" Kenji said, snapping out of a daydream.

"Perhaps you'd like to go down to the office and explain to the principal what's so fascinating outside that it completely distracts you from your schoolwork?" His teacher said crossing her arms.

"Oh, uh sorry," Kenji gulped looking back down at his textbook. He didn't want another lecture from his mom or the principal again.

This wasn't the first time Kenji had been scolded for staring off while in class. The sandy haired ten-year-old just didn't like sitting inside class all day. He never understood why his parents insisted on making him come here while so many other kids his age could get their very own pokemon and head off on their own journey. According to his mom, if you're not ready the world will chew you up and spit you out without a second thought.

The only thing that made school life bearable was that he got to help out his dad at his job after school. He didn't really understand all the science stuff, he was more focused on the fact that he could interact with the pokemon at the lab.

During lunch that day, he sat underneath his usual tree alone out in the playground area.

As he ate, a familiar voice called out to him that made is stomach turn.

"Well, well, well, what do we have here," a brown-haired boy said leaning up against the tree with a smug grin.

"What do you want Ritchie," Kenji said rolling his eyes.

Ritchie. Kenji's school bully. As soon as Kenji sat down on his first day of school on the bus Ritchie was on him. He had somehow orchestrated a bunch of smelly Trubbish to invade his spot during lunch causing him to smell rancid the rest of the day.

He never figured out how Ritchie managed to do it, but it was just the first of many pranks. Even after Ritchie was moved into the advanced classes away from him. He still took every chance he could to remind Kenji how much better he was than him.
