My imagined plot of how they first met.

Jeno heard the news that he would be a part of a special unit for SMCU Palace Winter stage at the beginning of December 2021. A rappers unit, to be exact. It would be a combination of all NCT groups and Aespa.
A mix of NCT 127, NCT Dream, WayV and Aespa would be interesting.
He was going to be a part of the Hot and Cold unit, and had finished the recording, but it seemed the second new rappers unit had to work extra harder to find a slot for them all to practice the choreography. Even the preliminary meeting hadn't been done though it's already December.
Actually, his first thought was that she would have joined. Aespa only had two rappers, and Karina already joined the Hot and Cold unit, so wouldn't it be unfair if it's her again for the Zoo unit?

December, 2019
The maknae group, Aespa, created a stir in SM family.
SM hadn't debuted a girl group for six years ever since Red Velvet. It's been a while. The cycle of new faces would always be there but SM got more boy groups than girls, so when the rumours of a soon to be female group debut was surfacing, a lot of people within the company were interested and curious.
"I heard they finally found the second rapper for the new girl group," Haechan said one evening.
"Really? They're going to debut a new girl group?" Renjun asked.
"Yeah. There are three trainees that are picked, but three are too few to make a girl group."
"It keeps decreasing in numbers. First there's SNSD which was 9 at the beginning. Red Velvet is 5, and now it's going to be only 3?" Jisung asked.
"It's hard to find the right female artists, I heard. Harder than finding members for a boy group. A girl gotta be talented and has to have the it factor," Mark replied.
"Also mentally strong, to live in this jungle," Jaemin added.
"This girl will be the fourth and final member of the new girl group. She passed the Saturday audition, and she's half Japanese and Korean."
"She's half Japanese?" Jeno asked, finally looking up from his mobile game.
There were not much Japanese trainee that were active, and they were all boys.
There was only one Japanese idol who had debuted, which was Nakamoto Yuta from NCT 127.
"Yeah, Japanese father, Korean mom."
Funny. Jeno remembered wishing this girl, whose name he didn't know, whose face he hadn't seen, to be able to adapt easily as a half Japanese and Korean in SM.

March, 2020
Around three months later he and Jaemin went to Kwangya together.
"WAIT, PLEASE!!!"
They were going to ride the elevator, but there was a girl running with all her might. Jaemin was talking about his latest achievement at the gym, and he remembered he was mumbling "ne," a lot, and he saw the running girl, then pushed the "open" button to keep the doors from closing, until she rushed in.
She seemed to be shocked to see them, and bowed really low, before greeting them.
"Annyeong--hase--yo, sunbae--nimdeul! Thank you for letting me--ride this elevator!"
