The next week was awful for Evelyn. Each time she crossed paths with Cedric, she wanted to cry. She didn't know why it hurt that much, but it did.
Maybe it was because she still didn't understand why he did that. Did he regretted being with her? Although he said that he did not regretted it but it made no sense.
The only explanation is that she must have done something wrong.
So the past week she has been with Steph. She was there that night and saw when Evelyn came back rather quickly from the date. As soon as she asked Eve what happened, she cried.
It's weird how Steph has appeared in the moment she needed a friend the most.
The word got out that Evelyn and Cedric were over. Harry wanted to check on her, but he felt like it was inappropriate.
Everyone was gathered in one of thhe big rooms in the castle to have a rather important class. At least those were the words of Mc. Gonagall.
What no one expected was that it was a rehearsal for the Yule Ball.
"On Christmas Eve night, we and our guests gather in the great hall for a night of well mannered frivolity. As representatives of the host school I expect each and everyone of you to put your best foot forward. And I mean this literally because the yule ball is first and foremost a dance."
Everyone started talking at that exact moment, but Evelyn's reaction was to groan internally. Couldn't this happen at any other moment in her life? Not at the exact same time that she was going through a heartbreak? And her first ever heartbreak for that matter?
"Silence!" Mc Gonagall continued, "I won't let you all behave like a babbling bumbling band of baboons."
Everyone followed instructions and stayed silent. From were Evelyn was standing, she could see Harry and Ron sitting together. Hermione was with Ginny and some other Gryffindor friends.
She was sitting with Luna and Steph, both have been very supportive of her for the past week and she appreciated it.
"Now. Mr Weasley, will you join me please."
This might have been the highlight of Evelyn's week. Although she was feeling as if she wanted to just disappear, this really made her laugh.
Ron started to dance with the professor and she could see the twins laughing along with Harry. They will never ever forget this moment for years to come.
"Now, boys, stand and chose someone to practice with."
None of the boys wanted to be the first. They were all too coward to even think of going to a Yule Ball. But professor Mc Gonagall was going to get very mad if none of them had thre guts to do it.
Evelyn was not expecting however, to see Neville asking Ginny first. Everyone was shocked but that also helped the others to find the courage to ask someone to practice the dance with them.
Fred Weasley was the one who asked Evelyn to dance with him, taking her a bit by surprise but at the same time grateful.
"So, how are you doing in this fine day miss Finley?" He was known to be the flirt along with George.
As they kept dancing it was nice to talk about something else. It kept her mind busy for other unwanted thoughts.
Once the class was over, Evelyn thanked Fred for the great time. She felt someone's gaze on her and when she looked it was Harry.
He was making her way towards her and she tried her best not to run away.
"See you later?" Fred asked and Evelyn nodded just as Harry came towards her.
