Ayanda"Ayanda! You are to wed this instant." Her father yelled angrily." "No ubaba! (father) I will not marry a man who beats me."Ayanda responded trying her level best to not let a single tear drop.
"It would be an honor to marry Kagiso, he is an honorable man. He is young and handsome as well."
Her father softly spoke in hopes Ayanda might give in.
And rich, that's the only reason you want me to marry Kagiso. Let me tell you something, I would rather be a slave sold to White men than marry an inja (dog) like Kagiso."Ok, if you want to be a slave so bad, I'll make you one." He replied.
"What do you mean?"Ayanda questioned.
Ayanda's father then grabbed her arm and dragged her all the way to the Royal Palace. He proceeded to bang repeatedly on the palace gates until one of the guards opened.
He then threw Ayanda into the palace and told the guards Ayanda was a gift from him to the king.
He walked away and looked back for a split moment and continued to walk away.Ayanda didn't know if she should be rejoiced she is not marrying that Kagiso or crying because she has been separated from her family.
Ayanda sat still, she didn't move, she didn't speak, she didn't cry. She did absolutely nothing. The same guard who opened the palace gates then aggressively picked her up and dragged her to the woman's quarters, he pushed her and she fell.
"Listen to me intombazane (girl), I don't know the reason your ubaba dropped you at the palace but I am not him and neither is anyone here so if I hear of any izinkinga (complications) that started because of you I will not hesitate to throw you out of the palace.
Ayanda only gave him an expressionless look. She neither moved nor did she speak.
"Amahle, we've got another unwanted daughter..."
The guard yelled.
",...dress her and make sure she bathes." He continued.A tall, thick, light woman with a rude expression walked put of the hut behind Ayanda. She helped Ayanda up.
"What's your name?" The woman asked.
"Ayanda" she softly replied."Follow me Ayanda!" The woman commanded.
Ayanda nodded, and followed Amahle. They reached a hut and walked inside. Inside the hut there was similar clothing to what Amahle wore.
"This is where you will rest..." Amahle spoke. "And that is what you'll wear." Amahle continued pointing at the clothing on the sleeping mat. "We bathe in the river at sunset, just sit in this room, I will call you at sunset." Amahle said.
Ayanda nodded again.
When Amahle left, Ayanda laid on the mat and then it happened. The tears she was desperately trying to conceal fell.
She cried and cried and cried for hours and all she could think of is if she would see her family again.
Ayanda overcome with regret sunk in a river of her own tears enough to wash her clean."Maybe I should've married Kagiso."she thought to herself.
I don't understand what to do anymore.
