Sonic was running.

There's nothing new about it, really, it's been sometime since Eggman's last attack, so he decided to fool around a bit.

By any means, Sonic was bored.

So when he saw a familiar silliuete at the corner of the eye, he halted to a stop, seeing red stripes on black.

The hero smiled.

But, then he noticed where he was.

In front of the church, Shadow was standing, with a cigarette between his fingers.

Sonic tilted his head, running towards his rival, boredom long forgotten, curiosity taking over it's place.

– Hey, Shadow!

The blue speedster greets the other, but the black hedgehog stays unfazed, taking a slow drag from his cigarette.

– Hello, Sonic...

He didn't seem so happy to see the other, but again, he never did, so Sonic wasn't hurt by that, running over his words as soon as he got the chance.

– Didn't expect to see you going to the church, never knew you were religious, also, I never knew you smoke, isn't that kind of disrespectful to do in front of a church?

His speech was fast, not taking a break even to breath, trilled by the view of his rival doing something so contradictory.

Shadow sighs.

– There's a lot you don't know about me, hedgehog...

He pauses, taking a drag before continuing.

– But I'm not religious...

–No?

– Not at all!

Shadow moves side to side in discomfort.

– Gerald used to read the Bible to me and Maria...

The smile on Sonic's face trembles.

– Oh!

– Yes.

Another sigh and another drag.

– It was fun at the start, Gerald used to say kids need something to believe, Maria seemed to like it too...

– ...And?

Shadow blows the smoke on Sonic's face, the hero coughing for air.

– You're asking too much, what the hell are you doing here anyways?

– Look who's asking now!

Sonic menage to say after catching his breath, giggling, Shadow looking at him as if he kicked a child.

– I was just running around, then I saw you and decided to nag you a bit!

Shadow roll his eyes, blowing smoke to his face once more, this time, Sonic didn't cough.

– So? A coin for your thoughts?

Shadow sighs.

– After sometime, it just didn't make sense anymore, somethings just didn't seem right to believe, so I started to question it.

He laughs without humor.

– It was funny to see a scientist trying to make me belive in god!

Sonic tilt his head.

– And what made you not believe?

Shadow smiles.

– Some people just don't fit in the description of a "good person" for things they can't control at all, that's hella unfair for a god who's supposed to be of love.

Sonic nods, going silent, he didn't expect to see this side of his rival when he stopped by.

– So why are you here?

– It reminds me of home...

– Oh!

Silence, the two hedgehogs stand at the entrance of the church, looking at each other, at loss of words, but then Sonic's curiosity peaks again.

– You're smoking! It's kinda disrespectful to do it in front of a church!

Shadow smiles wickedly.

– As if I care!

And he takes a long drag.

Sonic watches him, mesmerized by the toxic cloud that evolves his rival, swirling and dancing in the air, while the almost finished cigarette burns between his fingers.

– I never smoked...

– do you want to try?

– Nah, I don't know how to do it.

– I can teach you!

Sonic look at his rival, surprised.

– Would you?

Shadow let out a husky laugh, surprising the hero even more.

– Just follow my lead, okay?

He take a long drag, then whispers.

– Take a hit!

Then his hands are on the hero waist holding him in place while his face close the gap between them, lips touching.

Sonic's legs gave in, his body collapsing against Shadow's, beind held tightly against the other, one hand going to his face, thumb opening his mouth, and that's when he feels the smoke being blown into his mouth, running right to his lungs as he tries to take a breath.

Shadow's tongue runs through his mouth, leaving a tingling feeling behind as the smoke numbs his mind, and suddenly, all he can feel is Shadow, his body and mind aching for more of him.

But as soon as it started, it ended, leaving Sonic with a warm feeling all over his body and a distant worry of doing something like that in front of a church.

– W-wha...?

But when he looked, Shadow was already gone.
