Mina and Chaeyoung, bitter exes from a failed relationship, run into each other after some time.

(fluff & slight angst)

-

"Come on! It'll mean a lot if you showed up." Sana whined from the phone. She was convincing her friend, Chaeyoung, to attend the grand opening for her new coffee shop.

"I don't know Sana, I'm quite busy with my work." Chaeyoung sighed, looking down at the polaroids she took when she visited France.

"Please? Just for five minutes at least?" Chaeyoung closed her eyes, hearing how desperate her friend sounded. Sana then sang the word please multiple times, sounding like a toddler asking for candy. Chaeyoung let out of puff of air, opening her eyes. "I guess five minutes won't hurt."

"Really?! Thank you! That really means a lot!" Chaeyoung could hear Sana throwing flying kisses. "Your first coffee will be free! No need to thank me." Chaeyoung could imagine a wink from the older girl.

"I appreciate that," Chaeyoung replied with a chuckle. "I'll see you then." Sana said her goodbyes before the line went dead. Chaeyoung looked at the clock on her wall, seeing how it was nearing the afternoon.

Sana's grand opening was settled at noon. Chaeyoung knew her friend had been working hard to achieve her dream of owning her own coffee shop. Chaeyoung helped her by taking photographs for her upcoming business, later posting them on Sana's new website. She couldn't help but remember who else helped Sana's dream come true. Someone who was very dear to her.

Her ex, Myoi Mina.

Chaeyoung groaned, not wanting to remember the toxic relationship she had with her. They broke up a year ago, coincidentally today marking a year. They were younger and immature, lacking so many skills with each other. Both of them were toxic with each other, insecurities tearing down their relationship little by little. Chaeyoung had enough, making the move to break up with Mina which was a bit messy.

Shaking her thoughts, Chaeyoung grabbed her coat, exiting out of her apartment. Life has been doing good so far for her. She achieved her career in photography, traveling around the world and snapping photos. She was giving up on finishing college during and after her breakup but she managed to push through.

Chaeyoung walked a few blocks down, turning a right into downtown. In the distance, she could see Sana's coffee shop, adorned with balloons and bright lights. She was yet again surprised by Mina's work. Mina had helped Sana on building her shop, being an architect herself.

Chaeyoung stood in front of the shop, seeing Sana with her future employees behind the red ribbon. She smiled at seeing how many people showed up for this ceremony, even the local news was here.

Sana's smile brightened when she saw Chaeyoung in the crowd, subtly waving at her. As Chaeyoung watched, she felt a presence stand beside her. She then turned to look, freezing when her eyes locked with dark brown ones.

Her ex was right beside her, also seemingly surprised to find her here. The encounter was awkward, none of them saying a word. Chaeyoung eventually broke eye contact, clearing her throat.

"Afternoon." Chaeyoung politely nodded at her, not wanting to cause any drama at Sana's big day.

"Hello." Mina replied lamely, turning to look ahead of them. They both thought of moving, finding a new place to stand and watch but none of them budged. Their shoulders were inches apart, flinching whenever a brush from the fabric of their coats touched.

Sana had noticed the two, being their mutual friend, she could feel the awkward tension from where she was. She then hatched a plan; deescalate the bad blood they shared. How one may ask? Simply, she was going to invite the two to have a chat with her. Since they helped Sana's dream become possible, she wanted to treat them with a coffee as her thanks.
