Chapter One: Defeated
-
No! No no no no oh NO!
It's 11:42 AM on a Friday, almost lunch, and you somehow managed to sleep through all of your alarms, breakfast, and an important quiz in your economics college class. You've gotten up now, acting like a lunatic while running through your morning routine at 4x the speed.
Your skin care was usually first, which required performing a lengthy 10 step routine. Once your skin was cleaned and dry you'd brush your teeth followed up with the prescribed mouthwash for your gums. You'd pull out your makeup pouch filled with the overpriced products you had bought, and that caused you to not be able to afford gas for a week. You would put on a decent outfit, usually shorts and an athletic shirt. Finally, you'd fix your hair, then look in the mirror and cry. It was required that you do this procedure everyday, if you come out of your sorority house looking like a mess it'd end up with nothing but trouble for you. Trouble was not what you needed, anything stress-inducing would lead you to breakdown.
Your routine had to be cut down incredibly. You skipped your skin care. you did brush your teeth but had not used your prescribed mouthwash. Very sloppy makeup was applied. An outfit out of your dirty hamper had to be pulled out, it wasn't dirty but a funky smell did cling to it. You threw your hair into a quick style, today no tears were shed in the mirror. Now you are ready. You started to dash towards your bag that sat at your desk, but the clothes thrown out on the floor made you trip, causing a very loud and painful crash into the wooden floor beneath you.
Your face slammed against the cold floor boards. You were stunned for a moment, not moving. Some books fell off the bookshelf next to you. A faint female voice called from outside your room's door.
"Everything ok in there?"
You sat up slightly, wincing at the pain pooling into your sides.
"Y- Yeah I'm fine.."
If she actually saw the state that you were in she'd see that you were not fine, you were a mess. The voice on the opposite end of the door muttered an ok before walking away. You slumped onto your side, defeated, as you gazed at the chaos your room was in. Your eyes fell onto the books that laid next to you, two mangas. You haven't read a manga in so long, since you got out of high school to be exact. You read many different genres and watched the shows. Your mom spent maybe thousands on merchandise for you, that now served no purpose but to take up space. It was a fun time in your life to be a fan of that stuff but you didn't remember the fun moments of it but rather the negative ones.
The two mangas were Jojos Bizarre Adventure volume 1 and One Piece chapter 1, two of your all time most favourite Mangas and Animes. You picked the books up and threw them onto your desk, they were now just memories of the past now meant to be forgotten.
You tidied up your room a bit before rushing out. You first stopped by your missed class and begged the teacher to retake the quiz which she happily accepted for you to do. You rushed through it and ended up with a slightly below average score. Now you could finally breathe.
You sat in your school's library, just to catch your breath. You people-watched for a bit, sitting in a couch facing the front desk with a line full of people. This calmed your senses down a bit. Sadly, your calm was ruined by the buzzing of your phone. Your friend/ sorority sister, Maddy appeared on your screen. You slid the screen and answered the call.
"Hey girly! Ok so, I'm in a little bit of a dilemma here and I need your opinion on something."
You shifted, fixing your posture to respond back properly.
