Chapter 8.

     They walked into the classroom. Slade was subbing while they were gone. "Oh, hello! Welcome back, you two. Oh. Ryan, your-"

     "I know. It's crooked." He sounded upset. "Oh, don't worry, Ryan. In time, you will adjust." Victor reassured him.

     "Well, I can hang around for a little bit while you teach. Is that alright?" Slade asked. "We usually have to watch students to see how they act around a new teacher or their new teacher."

     Victor thought for a moment, and he then spoke. "Sure, it wouldn't hurt." He said with a smile.

                                   (Slade's POV.)

     I always wondered why I couldn't read Victor's mind. I mean, there are times when you can't understand any rune users, but generally, you can. I am the strongest person here to do that with this rune. He has told me multiple times before that he doesn't like it if someone reads his mind. But of course, me being me, decided to see if I could. It feels like something is giving resistance to it whenever I try to read his mind. Not even sure how I can tell but you can feel it, it's like a vibrancy like a sound of music blasting from the speakers. It's so strange. I'm just over here watching the students to help him out though. There are less seniors this year than I expected to be. But at least there are more first years this time, ever since we became open to the public, we had issues here and there, but we made a stop to them fortunately.

     I can hear everyone's thoughts, if I just focus, I can listen. Sometimes you might hear things you're not supposed to know, sometimes it's funny, sad, good, or normal. Like how; I wonder if my mail came in today. Or I'm so tired. That's what most are in this class. I can even hear them trying to remember a song or a clip of a video, it's certainly something. But for Victor's case I only managed to do it once. The thought I heard was, "I need to protect my son."

     When did he even HAVE a son? Never once he mentioned having one, nor being married, but he could be a divorcee but he's not. I even asked him.

     "Slade, I'm going to use the restroom. I will be back." He told me. "Oh alright, want me to watch the students while you're gone?" He's holding the leash of his dog, he doesn't usually always have it with him, maybe he just feels off today.

     "Yes please, I would appreciate that." He looks all fidgety in his hands. But it looks to me like he doesn't know that his hands are sometimes shaking randomly. I have always noticed that with my powers we can look through makeup. Strange yes but useful at least, he has it on his hands and arms. It looks like he has scars? "Sure, don't take too long though, I have to go into a meeting with Petra and Thomas later with Alfred as well. Are you coming to it?"

     I see him thinking or trying to remember what he was going to say, "No, I'm opting out of it for this one, I got to train Ryan after school is over." Train? Since when he started to train Ryan? "Side note, I have to fix this leak after too. So, I won't be available after. That's why I won't be here after school."

     "Oh really?" I wasn't too surprised as he told us that his apartment has been having some leaks from the pipes. "Yeah, it was supposed to be fixed during the weekend but I have been busy with the school here and-" The way he moved his hands seemed to look like he wanted to do something else but he's refusing to, trying to change the way he speaks with his hands, it's strange. "But best I go now, see you in a bit!" I watched him wave goodbye to me as I waved slightly back at him. He's certainly very strange. But he means well from what I can tell, he's always been different from the other staff members aside from being a non-rune user, he's taller than most, and very...what's the word? Father like? In a sense, we can tell he genuinely does care for his students.
