THE DAY FINALLY ARRIVED when Autumn was given the all-clear, and James enveloped her in an embrace that seemed to last for hours on end. However, she didn't utter a single word of complaint, as the entire week in quarantine had been nothing short of maddening.

James tightened his grip around her, his face buried in her hair. He breathed in deeply, savouring the familiar scent and the feel of her in his arms after so long apart. "Merlin's beard, I missed you," he muttered, his voice thick with emotion.

Autumn returned the embrace, clinging to him almost fiercely. "I missed you too," she murmured, her voice muffled against his chest. She felt a rush of relief and comfort in his arms, as though the world outside had melted away for a brief moment.

Reluctantly, they broke apart after a long moment, but James kept hold of her hand, refusing to let her go just yet. He studied her face closely, taking in her tired eyes and dishevelled hair, a stark contrast to her usual lively self.

"You look exhausted," he commented, a pang of concern in his eyes. "How are you feeling? I mean, really feeling?"

Autumn stifled a sigh before replying. "Honestly, I'm mentally exhausted," she admitted, her voice hoarse. "A week of being cooped up in that room was absolute torture. The days blurred together and I felt like I was slowly going insane."
