matilda beau chamberlain was the eldest daughter to pearl and blythe chamberlain. she was born on the 16th november 1937, in houston, texas. she had grown up alongside her younger sister harriet-rose, who was two years younger than her.
the family had lived with matilda's grandmother ruth, until she was diagnosed with lung cancer and had passed away shortly after matilda had turned eleven. ruth's passing had effected matilda's mental health tremendously, as she always had her grandmother to go to whenever she needed a breath of fresh air.
matilda's grandmother had always had a love for music. every time matilda would visit her house they'd always be a record playing or a crackling, old radio filling the house. she loved it there, but after her grandmother's passing matilda's family's financial situation had went downhill.
so, they decided to pack up and move to memphis, tennesse. they had used the remainder of their funds to invest in a small diner near the city, along with a three bedroomed house nearby. harriet definitely enjoyed memphis more than matilda, well that was until she met elvispresley.
