I press my ear to my closed bedroom door and I wait until I couldn't hear Jackson's footsteps anymore.
I quietly rush to my bathroom and close the door. I grab the handle to my glass shower door and turn on my shower. My bathroom is gorgeous. Pink tiles, floral wallpaper, gold hardware, white cabinetry, and marble countertops.
I turn on my shower and step into it realizing I don't have what I need. Curse my mother.
I run out of the shower and look underneath my cabinets and pray I find what I'm looking for. There's extra body lotion, hand soap, and- bingo. I spot my shampoo and conditioner. Brand new bottles since the opened ones are under the kitchen sink. I roll my eyes gawking at the thought.
Not anymore. I'm going to take care of my hair myself tonight. I'm in control because I don't have to do anything I don't want to. I don't have to let my mom wash my hair in the sink anymore. I'll do it myself.
I massage the soap into my hair just like she would and put the conditioner only on my ends. I stepped out of the shower and prayed that I got it all rinsed out.
I couldn't use the noisy hairdryer, but my mother said to never go to bed with wet hair. So I decide to let it air dry. Better yet, I changed my mind and decided to put in heartless curls. My hair will look so gorgeous and clean in the morning. And no laying on the counter in front of my brothers was required.
Once I put my now slightly damp hair into my heat less curls I climb into to bed and try to start falling asleep. Just in the exact moment I stopped moving, I heard someone open my bedroom door. They walked over to me and then they walked out and closed my door.
Probably my dad or mom checking if I was asleep. I gave a huge sigh of relief that my parents didn't come check on me any earlier or I would have been busted.
I slept soundly feeling in control.
...
The next morning I woke up early. Probably because I was sent to bed early and I was tired anyways from all of the running around and dancing with Link.
Oh my gosh. Link. I forgot about him. What a dream come true last night was. It felt like I was in a movie.
I sat up in my pink fluffy comforter and silk sheets to reminisce on last night. The way I looked and felt so pretty, the way Link befriended me even after figuring out I was lying to him, and of course, the dancing. I smiled remembering the way he looked into my eyes. And his real smile. His jokes.
My mind lingers on the thought of him all morning as I take my hair out of curlers and put a swimsuit on. The only one of my swimsuits that I like right now is a one piece that's pink with ruffles on the straps and leg hems. I was going to go on a morning swim so my parents wouldn't be suspicious when I'm gone to meet Link. My curls and my hair turned out literally perfect.
I flounce downstairs like the new person I am with Link's new philosophy in my back pocket. When I go into the kitchen everyone was there. Even Scarlett.
A couple of them remarked 'good morning' to me as I basically floated to the fridge. I only wanted a light breakfast before my swim, so I ate some fruit while I stood at the island.
I start to listen to my mother talking to the boys.
"Your father and I have seats in business class, but you're all in economy." Saying matter of a fact.
My brothers groan. But I'm the spoiled one?
"That sounds lovely. Thank you so much Laura." Scarlett says chirping.
