I'm so lucky.

That was the first tangible thing that I could decipher through the jumble of thoughts and emotions, a thought that accurately depicted everything I felt in that moment. The moment I first locked eyes with the person I was destined to be with.

A person who stood a great distance away from me, yet we were so close all the same. A person that felt the same uncontrollable surges of anguish and longing without fail. Even if this was namely the first time ever meeting one another, that gravitational pull was stronger than anything imaginable, that was the power of a hybrid's soulmate bond.

My fingers curled up even tighter in my pockets, eyes zoning in on the unbelievably gorgeous hybrid just a few feet away. I had to remind myself to breathe, but whenever I did, her thick aroma would suffocate me even further. I knew my face remained stoic, but nothing could hide the desire that pooled in my irises, the dilation of them.

The sound of the door clicking shut behind me met my ears, already knowing Hobi was guarding the door. He was giving us time. Even in this current moment, I held a deep respect for the person I've known for over ten years.

"Soul... mate?" Her voice brought my attention back to her, the sound mimicking that of a smooth melody, one I'd easily fall asleep to. She set the box of supplies down—a deeper part of me rather peeved with the person who made her recklessly carry something so heavy. I stood still by the door as she hesitantly stepped closer, ears flat against her head.

Was she scared? Of me? No that's not possible; it was likely her animal instincts reacting to my own species. I pray it was

"We'll know for sure once we check our marks." I internally winced at the monotonous tone of my voice, laced with that same coldness I use with everyone. Why now?! There's no way I'd live with myself if I acted like this towards her every day; my heart squeezed at the thought alone.

It wasn't long before she stood directly in front of me, giving me a better look at her face. I nearly sealed the bond in that second—she was so fucking beautiful. Her features were sharp yet soft, creating the perfect allure. Those eyes took the shape of a fox, slanted and mysterious, hazel pupils sparkling with blatant curiosity and attraction. A natural light pink blush sprawled around her creamy skin, faint spots of freckles scattered around the area.

I poked the inside of my mouth as my eyes flickered down to her lips, instantly hypnotized by the plushness and fullness of them, gleaming with a glossy shimmer. Long dark locks messily framed her features, giving her more edge and sass.

Oh she's going to kill me

Though, that's when my gaze traveled further down, brow raising at the markings on her upper neck. On closer inspection, I soon realized that those weren't any random markings—they were soulmate marks. And she had a shit ton of them.

Wait... was that—

It seemed that she instantly noticed my silent surprise, rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly. "So uhm... yeah. I have 7 soulmates." She visibly winced, as if she realized that could be a dealbreaker for her circumstance. In the hybrid world—especially amongst predators—it was frowned upon when they had to share with other hybrids.

It was a problem stemming from possessiveness of their mate, which sometimes meant the breaking of a bond in the worst case scenario. Sharing amongst two was bad enough, but seven could be seen as nearly impossible.
