It was the most relaxed Carter had felt in a long time. He had ended up going to bed early and woken up in the middle of the night to an empty bed, which immediately worried him. It was silly, there were many other places his boys can sleep, but having none of them by his side still spooked him.
He got up to get a glass of water from the little kitchenette and found the television on. Artemis, Tye and Kit were sat there, watching a horror film on TV.
"She's so ew." Tye complained as the screen zoomed into the porcelain doll staring vacantly into space.
"What you watching loves?" Carter asked making them all jump.
"Did we wake you?" Artemis asked gently. Carter smiled and shook his head.
"I came to get a glass of water." He explained.
"Do you want to join us? It's the second film in the series but it has just started." Tye asked. Carter smiled at him.
"I'd love too." He sat down beside him, Tye smiled at him.
"You look so happy." He whispered. Carter kissed his forehead.
"I am, angel."
Horror films were never Carters thing, and even though Artemis loved them, he had never really gotten into them. Why they had decided to watch the film series was beyond him, but they were all happy.
The next jumpscare made them all jump, Tye buried his head into his chest. Carter wrapped his arms around him.
"I've got you angel."
"Whys she looks like that?" Tye complained. "The real one was so less scary."
"The what?" Carter frowned.
"It's based on a true story." Artemis explained.
"What? A doll killing and possessing people?" Carter stared at him.
"It was less dramatic, but yeah." Kit nodded.
"That has to have been a hoax." Carter said firmly, haunted dolls were just a story to make money.
"You don't believe in ghosts?" Tye asked.
"Of course not, they don't exist."
"I've seen a ghost." Kit shrugged.
"Kit it was a trick of the light." Carter shook his head.
"I know what I saw." Kit replied. "She was there."
"A real ghost?" Tye was open mouthed.
"She looked right at me." Kit defended his claims. Carter just laughed and looked back at the film, the boys fell quiet as the film continued.
The tension on the screen built as it led up to another jumpscare and if he hadn't been holding onto him, Tye would have jumped off the couch.
After the film, all four of them headed to the bed Carter had been sleeping in. Tye looked around with a frown.
"What's wrong?" Artemis asked.
"Can't find Grimm." Tye explained.
"I think Riley's still got him, do you want me to grab him for you?" Kit asked, brushing Tyes fringe out of his eyes.
Tye shook his head. "As long as he's safe and not in the sea or anything."
"We wouldn't let that happen, would we Car?" Artemis said as he pulled the throw off the bed.
Carter smiled at them. "Of course not."

Carter awoke cradling Artemis in his arms. Artemis looked so peaceful and exhausted at the same time, he hadn't realised how tired he had been looking recently. He kissed his forehead and glanced at his phone to check the time. 7:30. Considering they were up late he assumed it would be a late morning for them and settled back down.He was about to close his eyes when the door opened. He glanced over to see Noah entering the room, climbing across the bed to where he and Artemis lay. Noah slid in-between Artemis and where Kit and Tye were spooning and still fast asleep.
"He's so cute." Noah pressed a kiss to Artemis' forehead before leaning over to kiss Carter. "How did you sleep?"
"Pretty well, what about you?"
"So well, I love being by the sea." Noah grinned. "What's the plan today?"
"I was thinking we could walk up the cliff to the ruined castle." Carter replied. He had ideas in his head for each day they were there, enough to change the plan for whatever his partner's wanted to do.
"An adventure?" Tye asked making them both look at him. He wiggled out of Kits arms.
"No!" Kit mumbled, pulling him back. Tye laughed.
"Kitty!"
"I guess it is an adventure." Carter grinned. "what do you think?"
"I think it's a great idea." Noah nodded. "He looks tired." He muttered, still focussed on Artemis.
"He always looks tired." Tye pointed out. Noah sighed.
"True, and you lot staying up to watch horror films didn't help." Noah shook his head with a chuckle. "How did you sleep after all that?"
Tye shrugged. "Car won't let anything bad happen to us." He explained. Carter stared at him.
"I'm glad you trust me to do that angel."
"That's what you do, you protect us. It's why we're all here." Tye told him. "Because you loved us and you protected us and we all fell in love."
"You are so cute." Kit mumbled, pressing kisses into Tyes neck, the boy in question giggled. Carter felt like he could cry. To have his boyfriend say it so plainly meant so much. He loved them all so much.
"Thank you love." Carter couldn't help the tears. He felt Artemis reach up and wipe away his tears.
"Don't cry Carter." He mumbled.
"They're happy tears." He explained himself. Artemis sat up and wrapped his arms around him.
"I know."
"What we have... It may not be perfect, but it's what we have. It's ours and it's the best thing that's ever happened to us." Noah added. "And you did that."
"You saved me." Tye said. "I don't care what anyone says, what we have is perfect, because it's ours."
