Chapter 1

Hello, everyone. I've been a little inactive in writing for a while, but as I'm trying to come back to it, I decided to upload this.

So, this is a story idea I've been playing with for some time. And, in fact, I'm thinking about trying to one day publish an expanded version of this story as a book (or series if its long enough). But, I'm posting it here first to gauge some interest in it and get some critique.

So, a quick intro about what this story will be: the concept is a Second American Civil War. Although I haven't actually seen it yet, the recent release of the movie Civil War is what inspired me to actually attempt this storyline. Now, my story will be vastly different from that movie in most ways, so don't think it will be just a retelling or a ripoff of that movie.

Now, I'm not going to just jump into the war. The build up will take some time. But I hope you'll bear with me, and I hope this story will be a success.

However, first, some critical information to know going into this. It begins in 2025 after the inauguration of a new president. However, the history of the preceding years is not our actual history. You'll see what I mean in this chapter. Also, I will be using real people as much as I can for this publication, but if I ever publish this as an actual book, I will likely not be.

Also, FYI, I don't plan on including author's notes in future chapters unless I have to, so, from now on, just enjoy the story.

Chapter 1

(January 20, 2025)

As the sun rises high over Washington DC on a relatively chill, January morning. The entire city is in a state not seen for some time as the newest president of the United States is about to be inaugurated.

On the steps of the Capitol building, the podium and stands for the presidential inauguration are filled with people, all watching as the ceremony is about to begin. Included among them is now-former president Donald Trump. After serving his second term following his narrow defeat of Joe Biden in the 2020 election, and despite some fear he would attempt to retain power, the former president had relinquished his position and ready to pass the torch to the new president.

Now, the new president elect steps forward to take the oath of office. The Chief Justice of the United States raises his hand and says, "Repeat after me."

Before him, the new president, Allen Davidson, raises his hand to take the oath. Davidson was a fast rising star in the Democratic Party. He had risen from a position as the mayor of his hometown in New York to win the nomination for the Democrat Party in a remarkable journey. Most of the country was surprised at his rapid rise to fame, but his policies and political beliefs attracted the admiration of many within the Democrat Party.

When the election came around, Davidson had shocked the country by not only winning not only Democrat votes, but also votes from many Republicans. Davidson had centered his campaign on healing the division in the country that had arisen in the past decade, and that had grown worse during Trump's second term. Despite being a staunch liberal candidate, he also had several conservative-leaning policies, specifically around immigration, the military, and foreign policy that attracted the admiration of many conservative voters. With one of the greatest margins in recent years, Davidson had defeated the Republican candidate and won the presidency. His election had brought about a surge in hope from both sides of the political spectrum that the country would begin to pull back together, with Davidson committed to working with both parties.

"I, Allen Davidson, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me God."

The Chief Justice smiles as he brings his raised hand down to shake Davidson's. "Congratulations, Mr. President," he congratulates Davidson.

Wild cheering breaks out across the event site as those attending convey their congratulations to the new president. Davidson smiles as he shakes several more hands before he steps forward to deliver his inaugural address.

After thanking the cheering crowd several times, and thanking his vice president, the chief justice, and the Congress, Davidson begins his speech, "My fellow Americans, as I stand here on the steps of the Capitol building, I reflect on the 45 men who have held this post before me. Since the beginning of our country, we have trusted men among us to lead this great nation and to sustain the ideals for which we fought for our independence. For hundreds of years, people have looked to America as a land of freedom and opportunity. And it is my greatest honor to be given this position to defend American liberty and idealism."

The crowd cheers as Davidson pauses to acknowledge the cheering before he continues his speech. Across the country, millions of people are watching this on television or listening on the radio. Americans everywhere listen with hope, hoping that this new president will be a step in the right direction.

(That evening)

On the lawn outside the Oval Office, President Davidson watches some of the nearby flowers wave gently in the breeze. After such a long day, he's ready to retire for the day. However, first, he has a quick meeting to attend to.

"Well done today, Mr. President."

Davidson turns around to see his vice president, an old friend of his by the name of Dan Sutherland. "Thank you, Dan," he says.

Sutherland smiles. "I must say, your ability to never let anything slip past your public facade never ceases to amaze me," he says.

Davidson allows a smirk to cross his face. "I've prepared my whole life for this, Dan. I've risked too much not to pull this off," he says.

Sutherland smiles. "You are going to transform this country, Allen. And this country will follow you like the sheep they are," he says.

Davidson smiles. "Long live the NSRP," he mutters to himself.

The NSRP, or National Socialist Resistance Party, was a group that had lain undercover in the United States for decades. The NSRP was an underground political party that espoused communism and other socialist ideologies, and had been formed with the intent of infiltrating the US government and transforming it into an authoritarian, communist state. Davidson had assumed leadership of the NSRP years earlier, but had publicly presented himself as a Democrat, believing it would be easier for him to win the presidency if he ran on the Democrat ticket. Now, he had finally achieved his goal and reached the office of the President. And now, his plan to unravel the government and turn the country into his ideal country is ready to begin.

Davidson looks around the lawns of the White House, his thoughts lying with his plan for the near future. Despite having achieved the office he sought, he cannot let himself get ahead of himself and move too quickly. Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast, he thinks to himself. His patience will one day be rewarded.

Soon enough.

Hope this was a good first chapter. The first couple chapters will be a little shorter, as they focus a bit more on the political side of things, where I'm less knowledgeable. Then, they'll start getting longer.

Also, don't bother jumping down my throat about Trump winning the 2020 election in this story. There is an in-story reason for it, and it would help this story work better. Also, I will state this because it will come into play later on: there are two things that happened in real life that in this story's timeline didn't happen, those being the war in Ukraine and the war in Gaza. In this story, the invasion of Ukraine was prevented due to efforts by Trump to stop it from happening, while the war in Gaza just straight never happened because in this story, Oct. 7 just never happened. The Ukraine situation, however, will come into play later in this story. And if you're going to whine about it because you hate Trump (because I know there are people out there who would do so), don't bother, because it's not changing. I tried to be apolitical by having Davidson in question be neither a Democrat or Republican, even if he ran as a Democrat. I am going to try and be apolitical as much as possible in this story.

Alright. Continue to give feedback and your reactions through your comments, and enjoy the story.
