june woke up, the blinking red numbers on billie's digital clock blaring into her eyes and making it impossible to sleep any longer. the clock read 08:13, and june groaned softly, lifting one hand to rub at her droopy eyes.

it was then that she became aware of billie's arm that was draped around her torso, stopping her from moving. she sighed, and the dog lying on the floor beside the bed looked up at the noise. she reached her hand down for shark to nuzzle into, "hi, baby. you're such a sweetheart."

she lay there contently for a while, her hand staying on sharks head as she gently scratched behind the dog's ears. by now, the clock read 08:26, and june remembered delilah.

oh my god, delilah. and ílios, what on earth will he do without me?

she reached to the bedside table for her phone before remembering that it was still in her bag at the kitchen table. it had been on 28% the night before, so she could only hope that it had enough charge left for her to text delilah and get an uber.

she heard a soft sigh from the girl behind her, "you're moving too much."

"billie..."

billie didn't respond, only nuzzled her head closer into the crook of june's neck.

"billie..." she tried again, "i have a dog to feed."

"i'm still offended i didn't know you had a dog." billie sighed, continuing to speak before june could respond–which was good, because june honestly didn't know what to say. "it's okay, i need to get up anyway. feel like i'm gonna be sick."

and just like that, june's plans had changed. delilah and ílios could wait.

"okay, you need some hangover magic. i'll make you some ginger tea, you go and throw up or whatever."

billie snickered, "you're not gonna hold my hair for me while i throw up?"

june rolled her eyes, knowing full well that if billie wanted her to, she would do it without hesitation. "call me if you need me, i'll be in the kitchen."

june pulled herself out of bed, tugging on one of billie's hoodies without a second thought before trudging into the kitchen. the tiles were cold on her bare feet, so she decided to get this done as fast as possible. as soon as the ginger tea was brewing, she walked over to the kitchen table where her bag sat from the night before. she reached for her phone, and it read 17% at the top corner. as expected, she had many unread texts from delilah.
