It was a bright early morning on a Sunday when I woke up to the sound of the most annoying iPhone ringtone. I got up and an annoyed expression took over my face. I checked my phone, it was Nameera aunty. I quickly opened my eyes and cleared my throat before answering the phone.
"Assalamalaikum aunty." I greeted her as I answered the phone.
"Walekum Salam idiot, I told you to be here a month before my wedding, didn't I. I thought you would be here this week. Where are you?" Aleena, my best friend, started ranting.
"Achha Aleena relax meri jaan I will be there tomorrow morning I promise." Oh right I had a flight at night I told myself more than her.
"Oh you better. And btw mama wants me to convey her Salam. Okay bye I gotta go.'' Aleena abruptly ends the call. I softly murmured a response to her Salam under my breath. Nameera aunty, Aleena's mom was a sweetheart. She always sent me something or the other with Aleena when she used to live here in Riyadh for her studies. Aleena and I were best friends in college during grad. We were really close, in fact she is the only best friend I ever had who was always there for me. She moved back to Pakistan when we were done with graduation. In exactly 3 and a half weeks was her wedding. She had a very dreamy story behind her wedding with Rahil bhai. But I guess that's a story for another time cause now I need to start packing for Pakistan. I was going to stay for almost a month which meant I had a lot to pack. I quickly got off my bed and freshened up. It was already 2 pm. I never wake up this late but I was too busy booking my tickets last night. I looked into my closet at the freshly stitched clothes I had made specifically for Aleena's wedding. I dumped 5 sets of heavy work clothes into the suitcase. 2 night sets which I would also need and a pair of heels, sneakers and flats. A few different colored hijabs and matching magnet pins along with 2 abayas in case I had to go out to run errands. I dumped my makeup and skincare bag that I had prepared last night. I definitely needed some daily wear suits but I decided I would borrow them from Aleena since I did not have enough baggage allowance. I realised I only needed my jewellery box and the suitcase would be all packed. Like all desi moms my mom also doesn't let me keep my own jewellery. She thinks I am irresponsible. So I got to her room to ask for my jewellery box. On my way to my parents' room I grab an apple from the fruit basket kept on the dining table.
"Morning mama. Morning baba." I entered their room and hugged baba. I was definitely a daddy's girl. My dad kissed my forehead. I turned towards my mom who was busy on her phone texting someone.
"Mama, I need my jewellery box. I am packing." I ask mama. She leaves me on heard.
"MAMA MY JEWELLERY BOX!" I ask her louder this time. She looks at me this time.
"Deti hoon." she replies and walks towards her closet. She opens her locker and removes a box and hands it over to me.
"Kab hai flight?" Baba asks me.
"3 am baba." I reply.
"Okay I will ask the driver to drop you to the airport at 12:30."
"Works." I reply and go back to my room, I finally pack my suitcase and lock it. I took my purse which I was going to use as a hand carry. I quickly grab the book I am currently reading "The Kite Runner '' along with my glasses, a lip gloss, a mascara, a few random use stuff and a few snacks. All I had to do now was decide my airport fit. I picked a comfortable denim with a light brown top. I pick out a casual airport fit on top of which I layer my favourite black abaya and pair it with my go to black watch and a pair of sneakers. I was ready. I went out to my favourite café for lunch and then came back home and spent time with mama and baba since they weren't going to come with me to Pakistan.
