Just sick or...?

A thew weeks had now passed.

Gloria was in the bathroom getting ready for a family brunch. She had been feeling weird and off all week so she was a bit concerned how the brunch would turn out.

She already had her makeup done nicely, wearing a pretty black dress that once again, was skintight. Typical for her. Golden jewlery and red lipstick to complete the look.
She brushed through her beautiful, naturally wavy hair. She decided to straighten it for the occasion.
Just as she was almost done with straightening her hair she felt this very sharp churn in her stomach. "Oh no-" she already knew what was going to happen as she had been experiencing this every morning the past week. She layed the hair straighter down and quickly made her way to the toilet, flinging her head over the toilet bowl, groaning in discomfort as she had once again gotten sick.

Manny was passing by the bathroom, getting ready to wait for the rest to get ready. The rest being his mom, as per usual. However as he heard his mother in the bathroom he raised concerns. Knocking on the door gently he let himself in. "Mom are you okay?"
Gloria could finally catch a break from throwing up and looked up at her son. "Ay Manny... i'm so sorry I'm keeping everyone up from leaving." Manny came closer and rubbed his mother's back in a comforting way. "Don't apologise mom, you can't help feeling sick." Gloria smiled softly as she got up to hug Manny. "Papi... thank you for being so understanding.."
This was the last she could bring out before she flung her head over the toilet again and once again had to forcefully let her stomachs contents do a round trip. Manny instinctively went up and held his mother's hair back. He had only ever seen her this sick twice: when she was pregnant with Joe and the one time she had a food poisoning from a wannabe colombian restaurant.

After some minutes Gloria's stomach had finally calmed down. Manny let go of her hair and helped her up and clean herself up. "Thank you so much papi.." Gloria hugged her eldest son tightly.

Manny had left the bathroom to let his mother freshen up some more. "Hey Jay. Can you maybe pour a glass of water?" He asked. Jay looked at him with disinterest. "Can't you do it yourself?"
"It's for mom, not for me." As soon as Jay heard that the glass was for his wife he immediately poured a glass with pleasure handing it to his wife who had freshened up by now.
"Thank you Jay.." she smiled a little as she drank from the glass. "You're getting sick a lot lately. We should check you out.." Jay suggested, being concerned about his wife. Gloria for once agreed. She was concerned too. "We do.. i missed my period this month. I'm concerned Jay."
Jay's eyes widened, as did Manny's. Mom missed her period? Could it be- no! It can't be... they're too old. Manny thought to himself.
"Oh well! I'm good now, let's go." Gloria said as she picked up her purse ready to leave.
"Wait honey, take these with you." Jay said as he slid her some nausea pills. "No i don't need them. I don't like to drag this type of attention onto myself. They should focus on my looks." Gloria stated as she put the pills back in their place.

Later, at the Dunphy's house

Claire went to get the door hearing the doorbell  ring.
She  greeted everyone excitedly as she moved out of the way to let them in. "Oh just so you know, Gloria is still a little sick." Jay informed his daughter about her step mother's condition. Claire had known Gloria wasn't feeling good at all but has tried to keep everyone calm by telling Jay and Manny that she was most likely just sick.

By now the guests had arrived in the dining area. All of the Dunphy family was present: Claire, who was the one bringing Gloria and the others inside. Phil, Haley, Luke and Alex who meanwhile stood seated in their chairs at the table.
Originally it was only planned for Gloria, Jay, Manny and Joe to come over for brunch. However as Claire was finally to sit down she was held up by the doorbell ringing again. She was confused as to who it could be since she hadn't invited anyone else. Turns out that due to some reason Cam and Mitch had their plans cancelled and decided to invite themselves over, bringing their sweet little Lily along of course.
"Oh! What a surprise- i didn't expect you three here." Claire said.
Cameron immediately started acting offended. "Next time just tell us you don't want us over... we'll leave. No worries."
"Cam no. I didn't say i don't want you over, i said i'm surprised you showed up since you had plans." Claire explained herself. Cam calmed down as he followed her inside with the others.
"Look who joined us everyone!" Claire said. For some reason she was in an amazing mood today.
"Aww you're in such a good mood today Claire!" Gloria exclaimed. She liked seeing her stepdaughter happy.
Finally as everyone was seated they could start digging in.
Gloria took a lot on her plate, Mitchell who was sitting next to her was surprised.
"Since when do you eat so much?"
"I don't know. I'm so hungry lately..." Gloria awnsered honestly, even going as far as to pull on the fabric of her dress to show him that she 'had been eating a lot the past weeks' in her own words. Whatever she was trying to show was barely the start of a bump though.
"She's done nothing but eating and puking the past weeks, I'm starting to worry." Jay added his two cents in aswell.
As soon as word had spread through the table that Gloria had been 'eating and puking' the past weeks , about everyone was a little concerned. Could she have a bad stomach bug? Was it an eating disorder? Pregnancy? Or something completely different.
The only one the least phased by it was Gloria herself. She dug into her plate without a care in the world. She didn't care that she could 'ruin her figure' since she figured the puking would even it out. Though even she thought the excessive vomiting was concerning.

After a while, everyone had pretty much eaten their fill.
"It was amazing, Claire. Thank you for having us, eventhough we kinda crashed the brunch.." Mitchell said, thanking his sister who gave him a warm smile. "Don't worry! It was a great surprise." It was so unusual to see Claire this happy. But no one said much.
While everyone was talking and just having a little catch up Gloria groaned a little, rubbing over her stomach.
"Oh no... mom..? Are you alright?" Manny immediately asked, concerned about his mother.
"It's doing it again. I think i'm gonna be- oh god... let me pass!" Gloria felt her stomach turn quite harshly before she jumped up and immediately ran to the bathroom to relieve herself.
"Oh poor thing..." Claire said as she watched Gloria disappear into the bathroom.
"At least we know it's not an eating disorder...? I think-"
"Haley!" Claire nodged her eldest daughter for her comment.
"Okay sorry..."

A little later Gloria had finally managed to calm her insides and join the others back at the table.
"Is everything okay?" Alex asked. Gloria nodded "I am fine! Just a bit of pressure on my uhm... bladder! I had to pee!" She tried to deny the real reason she rushed to the bathroom eventhough it was blindly obvious.
"Nice stains by the way. Are they part of the outfit? It looks... unique!" Haley commented.
"Stains? Ay no-" Gloria blushed, trying to remove the stains on her dress but was unsuccessful.
"You puked again honey didn't you?" Jay looked down at his wife who was sitting down, not daring to make eyecontact.
"That's it. We're seeing a doctor. This clearly isn't just a stomach bug." Jay decided for his wife. He knew she was avoiding to see the doctor for a long time but he only wanted the best for his beautiful.

A while later, at the doctors

Gloria was put on the seat to check her up. "Mrs. Pritchett, i think its best if we take a look inside your stomach." The doctor said. Gloria immediately looked at the doctor shocked. "You're cutting me open?!"
"No miss, we're going to do an ultrasound." The doctor said.
Gloria sighed in relief. Then she was asked to lift her dress up and it was then she noticed her lower belly had a teeny tiny curve. "That wasn't there before!" She said almost panicked.
The doctor put some cream on her belly and pressed the contraption against her belly, moving it around as he looked at the screen. "Miss Pritchett? We found the reason why you've been so sick. Take a look!" The doctor said as he turned the screen over to the pair. Both Gloria and Jay gasped as they couldn't believe what they were seeing on that screen.
"You're pregnant?!"
"I'm pregnant?!"
Both Jay and his wife sounded equally surprised.
"Yes you are, congratulations mrs. Pritchett!" The doctor said with a smile as he looked further around in the womb, just to check if everything was okay with the baby inside. "From the looks of it you seem to be around nine weeks in miss."
Gloria gasped in surprise as she looked at Jay. No wonder she was starting to have a noticeable bump. She used to tell everyone it was just because she was eating so much lately.
"Nine weeks? Did we really not notice sooner? Oh my god.." Jay was perplexed. Never in a million years had he thought he would become a father again at his age.
Before they packed up and were ready to leave the doctor stopped Jay. "Take care of your wife. Pregnancies at her age are risky."
Jay nodded as he immediately went to his wife who was close to tears.
"Honey, what's wrong? You should be excited! We're having another baby. Didn't you always want three kids?"
"This was a mistake. We're not prepared for a baby. Oh I should have just taken the pill..." Gloria was actually so close to tears she couldn't help but let one or two fall. She was incredibly excited for the baby, for sure. Especially because she had high hopes of it being a girl. But she was also scared. She was fourty five. Pregnancies at her age could bring risks and she was afraid.
Jay held her close and kissed her cheek before rubbing the little bump in her womb. "We'll get through this together honey.."
