The meeting room buzzed with tension as the NCT gang members filed into the meeting room gathered around the large table. Taeyong stood at the head, his expression serious. He scanned the faces of his team, taking in the mix of determination and concern that marked each one.
"Alright, listen up," Taeyong began, his voice commanding the room. "We've got a new mission, and it's crucial. Our spy team suggests that the Snipers are planning a to move tonight. We need to intercept and stop them."
He turned his gaze to Haechan, who stood tall despite the weight of responsibility settling on his shoulders. "Haechan, you'll lead this mission. NCT Dream will be the primary team."
Haechan nodded, a mix of pride and apprehension flashing in his eyes. "Understood." He replied, a smirk playing on his lips.
The rest of NCT Dream—Jaemin, Jeno, Renjun, Chenle, and Jisung—looked to Haechan, ready for their instructions. The briefing continued, detailing the plan and assigning roles. The room was a flurry of activity as they prepared, each member knowing the stakes.
As night fell, the team moved out. The mission started smoothly, with each member executing their roles with precision. But then, in the midst of the chaos, a shot rang out. Jeno stumbled, clutching his shoulder as blood seeped through his fingers.
"Jeno!" Haechan shouted, rushing to his side. The others covered them, returning fire and securing their position. Despite the injury, they managed to complete the mission and hurried back to the gang house.
Back at the house, Taeil, their medic, immediately set to work on Jeno. The atmosphere was thick with worry. Nari stood outside the infirmary, tears streaming down her face. She blamed herself, thinking that if she had acted faster, this wouldn't have happened.
Jaemin saw her distress and didn't hesitate. He walked over and enveloped her in a comforting hug. "It's not your fault, riri," he whispered, kissing her forehead. He brushed his hand through her hair, murmuring soothing words until her sobs subsided.
Inside, Taeil emerged from the infirmary, wiping his hands. "Jeno will be fine," he announced. "He just needs a few weeks of complete rest."
Relief washed over the room, and Nari rushed in to see Jeno. "I'm so sorry," she kept saying, tears welling up again.
Jeno gave her a reassuring smile, his voice gentle with a pinch humour, despite the pain. "It's not your fault, ri. I'm here in one piece, aren't I."
After a while, Nari came out of the room, exhaustion etched on her face. She sat on the sofa, laying her head on Jaemin's shoulder. The room gradually emptied as everyone went to their own spaces including Jaemin, the night's events taking a toll on their minds and bodies.
Haechan approached her, his usual bravado tempered with a rare softness. "You know, it wasn't your fault," he said, giving her a small smile. Without waiting for a response, he walked away to his room, leaving Nari with a flicker of hope that maybe things could be different.
As she sat there, the weight of the night's events settling on her, Nari couldn't shake the feeling that their destinies were more intertwined than any of them cared to admit. And maybe, just maybe, despite all the arguments and frustration, she wondered if there was someone out there who was her perfect match, her soulmate, and what they might be like.
