Elwia Delacour could hear the hard rain pouring on the King Cross Station's roof as she was walking towards the 9 ¾ platform with her mother.
The dark haired girl knew that England often had very bad weather, but this wasn't anything like she had imagined. Fortunately, her brilliant mother had used a drying charm on both of them, so they didn't get soaking wet.
Elwia walked through the platform and found herself looking at the Hogwarts Express. A bunch of owls were flying around, and young students were running as if they had lost their heads. She smiled a little; the atmosphere was much different compared to Beauxbatons.
"Remember to write me letters, my sweet Elwia." Apolline Delacour spoke to Elwia softly and kissed her forehead.
"I will try, but you know I often forget, mother. Tell Fleur I miss her already." The girl smiled and pulled her mother into a big embrace.
It was going to be hard to not see her mother and sister for many months, but Elwia was sure she would manage. She had managed before and this time wouldn't be any different.
"Try to stay sane, and tell me if it gets hard again. I love you." Apolline whispered.
"I love you too."
Elwia sighed as she left her mother and walked up the small stairs to the inside of the train. The aisle was rather narrow, so she chose the closest carriage to her left and sat herself and her trunk there.
She was in her thoughts for a while; thinking about her old life back in Beauxbatons. Was life going to be different now? Would the people at Hogwarts like her? As usual, Elwia found herself overthinking everything, scared of judgement. She had to be perfect, or at least try.
The shrill whistle of the train brought her back to reality and made her realise that the train had begun moving.
Elwia grabbed her book from her bag and looked at it with great admiration. It was her favourite book, even though it was a rather tragic one. Elwia grazed her fingers over the book cover that had the words The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath in it. She had had this book since she was born, but she was only allowed to read it when she turned 16. The book had multiple annotations from the previous owner; Elwia remembered almost every annotation by heart. The first page of the book also had the initials L.E. which were presumably the initials of the previous owner, but Elwia had no idea who it stood for.
Before Elwia could start reading, she suddenly heard some hustling and whispering outside of her carriage. As it was disturbing her peace, she decided to open the door.
A boy with messy hair and round glasses looked at her with an embarrassed smile, he looked very familiar.
"Can I help you?" Elwia asked politely with a small smile, not trying to make enemies on her first day.
A girl with curly brown hair came into Elwia's view and pushed the boy aside.
"Sorry for the disturbance, all the other carriages are full. Could we sit with you?" She asked and smiled.
"Oh, of course. What are your names?" Elwia asked and sat back in her seat.
The trio introduced themselves as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.
"I'm Elwia Delacour." The girl introduced herself and smiled.
Harry looked at the girl, and Elwia could see some pieces click together in his mind with the way his gaze changed.
"Oh, you're Fleur's sister, right? I saved you in the lake challenge in the Triwizard Tournament." Harry grinned and shook Elwia's hand.
"How is Fleur?" Ron asked, to which Hermione slightly scoffed.
Elwia laughed a little, and nodded her head.
"Yes, now I remember, I thought you looked familiar. Fleur is working as a trainee in the French Ministry of Magic now. She graduated with flying colours after the tournament." Elwia told the trio.
"That's brilliant." Harry said.
"Is Hogwarts nice? The atmosphere seemed a bit chaotic at the platform." Elwia asked, trying her best to keep up the conversation.
She sometimes struggled with it– holding conversations.
"It has its perks but also some downsides." Hermione shrugged her shoulders.
"Yeah, stay away from this one blonde boy named Malfoy from Slytherin. He's terrible." Ron gagged.
"What has he done?" Elwia asked with a small laugh.
"What has he not done?" Hermione sighed.
"He's a blood supremacist and a bully." Harry explained to Elwia.
"Oh, that's not quite nice." Elwia mumbled while petting her owl Mitski, but quickly realised her bad response. "I mean obviously being a bully and blood supremacist is not quite nice, that's terrible. I'll stay far away from him." The girl corrected herself with an awkward laugh.
"Is that a snowy owl? I have one too, it's named Hedwig." Harry smiled, not caring about the 'mistake' Elwia had made.
"Yes, her name is Mitski. Where is Hedwig?" Elwia asked with a smile.
"Hedwig doesn't fancy taking trains, she always flies to Hogwarts and waits for me in my room." Harry laughed lightly.
"Oh, that's sweet." Elwia said and looked out of the window at the view.
"Do you like England so far?" Hermione asked.
"Yes, it's great. Although, I can't say I like the weather." Elwia answered with a laugh.
"I bet France is so much better, can you teach me french?" Hermione smiled, scooping closer to the brown wavy-haired girl.
The rest of the train ride consisted of Elwia and Hermione discussing Sylvia Plath and France, Ron and Harry playing wizard chess, and the trio telling Elwia all the Hogwarts lore. It was a lot to take in, but Elwia felt more comforted now that she had some friends. The trio were all in Gryffindor, starting their sixth year. Elwia would also be starting her sixth year, but her house was yet unknown, at least for the next intriguing 60 minutes to come.
