Blair:
My grip tightened around my mothers hand as we walked through the crowd. It was time for the selection, that occurred every fourth year. "It's going to be alright", my mother whispered to me as the line came to a stop. She turned to look down at me, cupping my face in her hands. Her long black hair was tied up in a bun, her brown eyes comforting my nerves. I gave her a weak smile, trying to let myself relax. Everything will be fine. My mother turned around to face a tall vampire, glaring at us as we have moved up to the front. The crowd had been divided up in two, the girls and boys from their fifteens to twenties on the left side of a fence, and the children under fifteen and adults on the right side.
I felt my breathing speeding up as the vampire tilted his head to the right, telling my mother that it was time to leave my side. "Mother-" I pleaded when I felt her grip loosen on my hand and I stared up at her. "It's alright, sweetie", she whispered calmly. "Me and your father will wait for you here once it's over," she cupped my face in her hands, "Then we'll go get ice cream. I promise", she kissed me on the forehead before letting me go, turning her back to me and disappearing through the crowd of people. "Move it", the vampire hissed at me, pushing me to the left, clearly annoyed by me and my mothers little moment. I looked down at the ground before I walked into the crowd, taking place by the other fifteen year old girls, who were huddling together in the front of the large stage, where the vampire royals of the city was standing.
For a short moment, my eyes locked with a pair of dark red eyes, and I quickly looked down at the ground in panic, knowing how angry the royals could get if you accidentally looked them in the eyes. I shut my eyes tightly, preparing for the royal I had looked at to scream at me, but nothing happened. I slowly glanced up, wanting to get a good look at all the royals. This was the first time I could see them in person, and I wanted to make sure to remember their profiles. I didn't even have time to study the Lord and Lady until I saw those pairs of dark red eyes again, staring directly at me. The prince. I stared at him, my eyes locked on his. He just looked at me, no sign of emotion on his face. He was dressed in a black suit, white gloves covering his hands. He was pale, but had a little more color than other vampires. My gaze moved up to his dark brown curls on his head, then I looked back at his face, only to realize that he was now looking at another vampire who had appeared on stage.
"Alright! People, let's start!" a loud man voice spoke up, and a tall vampire dressed in a light gray suit had stepped forward. Hes probably the one who will hold this lottery.. I thought to myself, digging my nails into my palms to help myself from panicking. Everything will be fine. Totally fine, I told myself in an attempt to try and calm my nerves. "Welcome, to our fantastic lottery. So exciting to see some new faces on the left side", he smirked as he looked down at the group of fifteen year olds, and I felt myself trying to sink back, trying to make myself appear smaller. The man clearly liked our reactions, because he let out a quiet chuckle before turning his head back to the crowd. "My name is Mikael Moreno, and I will be the host of this year's selection!" Mikael smiled proudly. All the vampires clapped, starting to glare at the humans so they would also clap their hands. I gulped, quickly clapping my hands as I looked down at the ground for a short moment, before looking back up at Mikael, once everything quieted down.
"Let's begin, shall we?" Mikael grinned as he walked over to one of the large bowls of tiny paper pieces in it. "Slaves first!" he said loudly, and I felt my chest go tight with worry and nerves as he pulled up a paper piece, slowly folding it up to read the name. "Harry Lawrens!" he said, and I relaxed slightly when it wasn't my name. Nine more to go..
It had been a while, and it was time for the last pet to get selected. All the slaves and pets had been taken up on the stage, chains around their wrists, three guards standing around them. Their faces were locked on the ground, and I could clearly see tears running down their faces. I felt bad for them, I really did. But I knew neither of them. The youngest one had had been selected was a seventeen year old boy, who had been selected as a slave. So I was just happy that there were no younger ones selected.
The sky had been covered with gray clouds, but luckily, it wasn't windy. Mikael pulled up the last paper piece, fiddling with it in his hand before unfolding it. "Blair Solace!"
(Oh god, almost 1000 words- Oh well, I'm actually quite proud of this little prologue :D I hope anyone will read my little story! xx)
