"Watch where you're fucking going."
As I approached the front door of Haverford High, I was too busy trying to stand on my tiptoes to look for my best friend, Sam, that I accidentally slammed into some random kid.
Good start for junior year, huh?
Not wanting to start anything, I quickly apologized and hurried on with my day. It's 7 a.m., and the *last* thing I want to be doing is arguing with some random kid twice my size. Hell no. Luckily for me, I saw Sam's goofy little smile looking at me (and laughing at me) near the bike rack. As I quickly shimmied my way through the crowd to get over to him, I heard him talk to me through his laughter.
"You good there, Alex?" he said sarcastically.
I rolled my eyes. "Maybe you should've waited for me on the sidewalk like I told you to so I wouldn't have done that," I said, pushing him on the shoulder lightly.
He said something about me being a dumbass (like usual), but mid-insult, the bell rang.
"I'm not being late to my first class because of you," I said, quickly running to... and then I remembered I had absolutely no idea where I was going.
See, I would've gone to the presentation thingy last week to see my classes, but to be honest, I didn't really feel like it, so I skipped it and didn't tell my mom. Thank God she didn't realize. Whatever, I'll find my class somehow.
I dug through my backpack and realized I had a schedule (somehow) and I quickly ran to the class number.
"Mr. Jones, English, first period. Not too bad," I said to myself, walking in and quickly finding my name tag on my desk.
"ALEXX!!"
Oh lord.
I looked behind me to see one of my best friends, Jake Lafferty, reaching in for a high five with that toothy grin of his, saying something about how much he missed me.
"Yaknow I saw you yesterday, right?" I said to him, which got a reply of mumbled nonsense from him. He's probably my best friend behind Sam, but he's always so full of energy. I'm mostly laid back and chill, but he has enough energy to run through a wall even though it's only 7 in the damn morning. I don't.
I looked around to see who else was in my class that I knew. One of my other best friends, Abi, waved to me from across the room. I waved back (because I'm nice) and realized—damn, this is the first year in a while without Colin.
Colin is Sam's brother who's pretty much been my brother too. Sam, Colin, and I have pretty much been a trio since 6th grade. Now, Colin's off to college and Sam and I are two years behind, which sucks. We're in a band together called The Skin Cells. We haven't played too many shows, just a few small gigs and only made a few songs. It's more of a casual thing than anything, just to pass the time.
I waited for Mr. Jones to walk in. Nothing else really interesting happened in that class. He just talked the whole time, but to be honest, I just had my headphones in and listened to some Modest Mouse the whole time. The first day doesn't *really* matter anyway.
I went on to a few of my other classes and met up with some of my friends. Sam, obviously; my friends Emily and Pierson and a few others. That was until 5th period. I had a free period so I could go sit in the bathroom for 45 minutes or go to the library or something. I decided to go to the library. Mrs. Bohl and I had always been cool with each other and I would show her some music I've made since she keeps a guitar up there.
I ran up to the library and barged through the door, and luckily it was completely empty in there.
"Alexander! Welcome back. How was your summer?" she asked, waiting for my response.
