It wasn't my first time on a plane, but I had never been this nervous before. Even the music playing through my headphones couldn't calm me down. Most people would think of their parents when traveling far from home, but I couldn't stop thinking about my ex-boyfriend, Doruk. I was truly living up to the Cancer zodiac sign: never letting go of the past.

My hands were gripping the seat as if they could sense what was about to happen. When the plane shook, my fingers felt like they were being torn off because I had clung to the seat in fear of death. The water offered by the flight attendant brought me back to my senses a bit. It seemed like I was the only one affected by the turbulence.

As the minutes dragged on, I tried to calm myself, but my efforts seemed to have the opposite effect. When my eyes felt like they were about to pop out of their sockets and spin wildly, I knew something was really wrong. My dizziness worsened, and suddenly my vision went black. Everything was dark.

I opened my eyes to the sound of chirping birds, as if waking from a sweet dream. I was lying down, looking up at a cloudless, bright blue sky. Without bothering to brush off the fresh leaves that had fallen on me, I slowly sat up and was confronted with a terrifying sight. In front of me was a three-lane empty highway. I was lying just beyond the barriers on the side of the road...

As I slowed my steps from exhaustion, I kept thinking. The plane couldn't have crashed because I seemed to be perfectly fine. I hadn't taken any medication with side effects before boarding the plane. I only remembered fainting. Whatever had brought me here had also caused my suitcase and backpack to disappear. Without my phone, I couldn't contact anyone or let anyone know where I was. After walking on the highway for about fifteen to twenty minutes, I realized that not a single vehicle had passed by. I stopped and looked at the road, then turned to look in the opposite direction. There was no sign of human life.

As my confusion grew with each passing second, I kept moving forward. I was starting to feel more and more exhausted. When I lifted my head from the black asphalt and looked ahead, I saw a small town in the distance. Finally, a sign of life. Summoning my last bit of strength, I quickened my pace.

After a few hundred steps, I saw the sign.

"Welcome to Dreadmoore. Population 654."

It was a creepy sign with an ominous inscription. But I didn't have time to be scared because my original reason for flying from Turkey to America was to attend university in the city of Dreadmoore on a scholarship. What did all this mean?

First, fainting on the plane, then waking up on a deserted highway, the highway being so close to Dreadmoore, and the place I knew as a city turning out to be a spooky town!
