After watching Hunter step into battle with the purple squid monster, you and Tech started dodging tentacles and making your way progressively towards the shark-child entangled near its side.

It was evident the squid was trying to keep hold of the kid because he had wrapped his tentacles around it numerous times and was holding the shark-child close to his side very near to his body while the other tentacles were busy trying to keep you all away. This would have been more daunting had there not been four of you, two of which were armed with virbo-knives which easily sliced through the squids leathery skin and soft flesh.

Wrecker had been cut loose from the tentacles that had wrapped around his arms and throat and now he and Hunter were bearing down on the squid, getting close to its eyes and attracting all of its attention. The squid screeched in a loud high pitch as it fought you, going from agitated into aggressive very quickly.

You and Tech on the other hand were having a harder time getting close. At this point you were all soaked with water from the splashing and dodging making the none-water fabrics stick to their skin. The shark would cry out "Kōkua! Kōkua!" when he could hold his head above water, but the squid would quickly pull him back down. Hunter and Wrecker were keeping it occupied, but you and Tech could do nothing but continue to fight off the squirming and bleeding tentacles until you could see an opening.

You kept yourself in a defensive stance, ready to leap as soon as the moment presented itself, and with Hunter and Wrecker now close enough to scratch the thicker skin of its body the squid finally looked away from you and Tech.

You heard Tech say something, but you were already in motion, diving forward towards the child head first as if you were going to swim into the water. You wrapped your arms around him, sliding your fingers under the tentacles as best you could to lift their crushing grasp off of the child's body. You pulled your feet under you to stand on the soft sand and tried to get your footing so you could give yourself more leverage.

The shark started biting at the tentacles close to its face, and squid writhed in agony pulling you under the water. There was a burning in your nose as you were yanked under, and you held your breath as best you could, refusing to let go.

The squid had evidently had enough of this battle and was now trying to retreat away. Your eyes were squinted under the water and the salt burned your eyes making you squeeze them tightly shut.

--I can't let go-- was all you thought, as you held on to the shark-child feeling the squid start pulling you both out away from the island.

As you gripped the kid, you felt arms wrap around your waist and start pulling you back. You stiffened as best as possible, aiming to help them pull you as you held on to the child. The squid screeched again as Hunter stabbed into it, and at last it loosened the grip on the shark. The squid used its remaining tentacles to spread out its body wide before pushing away in one strong *whoosh* leaving behind a large cloud of ink.

You kept hold of the shark-kid, who was pushed into your arms as you were pushed back into the person holding you from behind which you soon realized was Tech. Your head came above water as you stepped back and fell onto Tech's arms and his lap, with the shark-kid still in your arms. The squid was gone, and you held the shark in one arm as you wiped water out of your face.

"Yeah you stay back!" you hear Wrecker yell out.

"Are you okay?" you ask the shark-kid. You can feel Tech behind you shift around but you are all seated on the ocean floor further up the shore. The water was high enough to reach your waist, but thankfully the waves were small and you got the water out of your eyes and nose.
