.........

Melancholy was truly a weird feeling. It felt elating and suffocating at the same time, grabbing him with a choking hold and pulling him in the depths of his mind. Thoughts twirling and morphing by the second like a chaotic wind.

The blood that ran down his face left a crimson trail in its wake and to him, it felt as if it also washed away his thoughts, feelings and the pain that he had felt up until now. A hoarse cough escaped his lungs, shaking his body violently.

A dark chuckle escaped his lips at the same time that the rain started to fall. It met his face in a nearly calming manner, sient pit-pats on the cold concrete. His bones felt shattered, hurt by the hard impact.

The broken monocle that laid a few meters away from him glinted ominously in the light of a nearby streetlantern and reflected the red blurr of the pool of blood that now started to surround him. It took his muddled brain a few seconds to realize that it was his blood.

In the distance he heard Nakamori screaming commands at the other policemen. The sound of steps grew louder and louder until they stopped next to him.

Blurry faces started to surround him. When had his eyeesight started to swim? He tried to focus his gaze on the male infront of him. Was that worry he saw in the other's eyes?

"Stay awake, KID! It will be fine!" the keibu did seem frantic, scared, even. Did he look that bad?

"I-I'll try-" he meant, realizing tht his voice sounded far weaker than he thought it would. A second coghing fit interrupted him, resulting in him shielding his mouth with his gloved hand.

A bad decision, he thought as he realized what the coughing fit had left behind. Red was all too apparent on the snow white fabric. He stared at the crimson hue for a few seconds before the red slowly started morphing into a darker shade marred with blinking stars, taking over his whole vision.

A deadly silence was all that followed.

  .........

The silence didn't last all too long, though. When Kaito woke up, his eyes were assaulted by a blinding light, making him squint his eyes in discomfort.

Pretty much everything hurt right now and he felt a splitting headache forming in his skull. He groaned and tried to sit up, but that didn't work out all too well.

Only belatedly did he realize that he had a tube stuck in his throat and he had to lay down again to stop himself from forcefully pulling it out.

He sighed, or at least he tried to mimic the motion as best as he could in his current stage and then gave the room a thorough look.

He was in a hospital room, or so it seemed, and was lying in a rather comfortable bed. The lower part of his body, were his feet lay, was pushed up a bit, his right foot was engulfed by a cast and he realized that he, contrary to his expectations, had not been bound to the bed.

It was understandable though, even though his status as gentleman thief required a certain amount of skill when it came to escaping various places, the state he was in right now made it inpossible to even move. Seeing that even breathing left an uncomfortable sting in his lungs, he didn't wish to imagine what he would feel like if he moved.

He blinked as his headache started to grow stronger and then slightly turned his head to the rest of the room to atleast find a clue aboout his current location.
