Rheanyra was escorted to her uncle's chambers by his guards, when she finally reached his quarters. Maegor stood arms crossed boiling in anger, as his doors opened revealing his niece.
"Your Grace." Rheanyra greeted blandly as she enters his chambers, lowering her gaze to the floor.
As the door closed, Maegor moved to Rheanyra "You disobeyed me!" He snapped.
"I expected a better kind of behavior from you Rheanyra." The King spat with disappointment rubbing his face, massaging his temples.
"You both fled King's Landing without a word and you acted without The Crown's leave." Maegor scolds as his children kept quiet.
Rheanyra's eyes meet her Uncle as he neared her. "You are a girl. A princess! You could've been killed!" Maegor flared clenching his jaw.
"May I sit?" Rheanyra asked, without waiting for approval. She sat across her his chair.
Maegor came and sat across Rheanyra, frowning. "You went to Dragonstone." He spat, skeptically staring at the two of them.
"And retrieved the egg from Uncle Daemon without bloodshed. A feat I'm not sure Ser Otto could've accomplished alone. If not for my intervention." Rheanyra argued.
Maegor sighs, he knew even Otto could stop this chaos. "Yes, well, I sometimes forget how alike you two are. You did a good job, I'm proud of you." He etched a small smile.
"Thank you uncle." Rheanyra remarked.
"Your parents death is a wound that will never heal. And Mellario's passing took a huge toll on me. Without her, the Red Keep has lost a warmth that I dare say it will never recover." Maegor rested back, staring at the ceiling while trying to fight back his tears.
"It pleases me to hear you say this." Rheanyra told him. "To know that I'm not alone in my grief."
"I wish I had known better what to say to you in the aftermath. I struggled to realize that my niece, had so quickly become a woman grown. fierce, beautiful, bold and brave." Maegor appraised.
Rheanyra smirks. "So do you think I still deserve a seat in the small council?"
The King sat up and sighs. "I do. Starting tomorrow you will no be a cup bearer, but a member of my small council."
Rheanyra's heart swelled, her orbs glassy. "Thank you uncle."
"But I know you now understand, what is now expected of me." Maegor inclines
"The King must take a new wife." Rheanyra counters.
Maegor lowers his head, taking a deep breath.
"I could never replace Mellario. No more than I intend to replace your position Rheanyra. But you are my only niece. And as your guardian. I love you so much and you're like a daughter to me and I wouldn't to have a divided home." Maegor says with sincerity, his red gold orbs, gleaming like flickered lantern
"And our line is vulnerable, too easily ended. You, me, Daemon and Rheanys and House Velaryon are the only living members of our bloodline. And by marrying again, I may begin to ensure that we are better defended."
"Against whom?" Rheanyra asked.
"Whomever may dare to challenge us. I do not wish to make us estranged."
"You are the King, and so, your first duty is to the realm. Aunt Mellario would've understood this. Just as I do." Rheanyra assures.
Maegor leans back into his chair and lets out an exhale of relief. "I thought of marrying Laena Velaryon.....but she too Young."
