"who is keola and marleigh?" asaan scrunched his face up.

"bruh kapri's and kasir's cousins! we literally went to school with them."

asaan shrugged.

"i guess. what about them?"

"i saw 'em at the mall the other day. they said kapri go to college out california or some shit."

"doubt it."

"me too. when me and kapri was together all she did was tell me that she ain't wanna go to college."

"but you know her moms wanted her to so you never know."

"yeah...even if she ain't in california she ain't tryna see me."

asaan looked at me as if i was crazy.

"i hope you ain't missing her ass."

i smacked my teeth.

"man.."

asaan shook his head.

"nigga fuck her and her brother. and all them muhfuckin' cousins they got. leave that high school sweetheart shit to the birds."

"i miss her every now and then. never said i was gon' double back."

"you shouldn't even be missing her. if it wasn't for that whole family then our pops would still be alive."

i rolled my eyes.

"it's deeper than that and you know it."

"is it?" he said, lighting the blunt and handing it to me.

"aight, asaan."

"i'm just saying-"

"i get it, bruh. no need to keep repeating the shit." i muttered, hitting the blunt.

"if you want some pussy that bad, then you need to hit up solai."

"nobody want her washed up ass. she my cousin now."

asaan laughed.

"imma leave in a few hours. i gotta go help mommy wit' some shit then i have to pick up xolani from her hair appointment." asaan spoke as he rolled another blunt.

"you too old to still be calling ma mommy."

"you mad cause i'm her favorite."

"you one of them niggas who was breastfed til they was eight." i laughed.

he mugged me.

"shit was not funny."

"this why pops used to call yo' ass jody from baby boy."

he hit the back of my neck making me stale face him.

"you better tread and make it light." i mugged.

~time skip~

"where yo' ass been?" i asked solai as she entered our shared apartment.

solai was my best friend and ex.

we shared an apartment since we graduated high school and contrary to popular belief, it wasn't awkward at all.

we had an understanding about our arrangement which made it easy to navigate our everyday life.

"girl you all in my business." she laughed as she placed her purse on the counter and grabbed a water from the fridge.

"you been out with yo' lil boyfriend way more lately. y'all been sneaking off like sherlock holmes and shit." i mumbled, rolling my blunt.
