The next day Izuku got dressed, despite being scared and nervous about how his best friend was gonna react to the upsetting bad news, he was happy to see his friend. Inko stood with a smile but this smile wasn't her regular cheerful smile , this smile looked a lot like the size she wore at the appointment. Izuku and Inko left their small apartment and made their way to the neighborhood playground. Izuku saw Kacchan and some of the other kids from the neighborhood, as soon as Katsuki saw Izuku he instantly ditched the other kids and ran to Izuku. The excitement filled Katsuki's eyes and he began to speak "Izuku, Izuku! I got Explosive hands! Look!" Katsuki held up his hand and little small fireworks sparks sizzled and made small booms, Izuku's eyes held small amazed stars "THAT'S AWESOME KACCHAN!" Katsuki's heart filled with pride and his ego grew a bit at the compliment but as much as Katsuki cared about himself he needed to hear about Izuku's quirk. He needed to hear if his quirk was strong enough to be heroes together. "Izu! What's your quirk?" This question, the one Izuku dreaded the most. He began to pick at his fingers and smiled nervously "Promise me something Kacchan... Please" Katsuki looked confused but nodded "I promise whatever you're going to tell me won't upset me. Izu, You know I will always be there for you. I kept the promise to marry you when we get older, see" Katsuki claimed while holding up the small silver promise ring that was around his neck on a necklace. The necklace was Izuku's initials and he kept a silver promise ring next to the initials at all times, he never took it off even while showering and bathing, even while swimming in the summer. Izuku exhaled a breath then spoke in a soft whisper "I-I'm quirkless... B-but that's okay, right?" Before any other words could be uttered from the two, the rest of the kids from the neighborhood laughed and whispered to each other, the worst part was... They didn't even try keeping it in a whisper tone. One caught Katsuki's attention, it was from a kid who had red wings. ' I heard Quirkless kids are weak. My parents told me that. I had a quirkless friend too once and they couldn't do anything right. They were pathetic " the kid faced Katsuki "Bakugo, Leave him. He could curse you and place bad luck on you. He's weak and pathetic. " Katsuki looked back at Izuku, who had tears in his eyes "Kacchan, w-we could still be heroes, r-right?" Katsuki was stuck, either taking his best friend's side or believing the words of someone WITH a quirk, so much pressure was on Katsuki's shoulders but he chose an option. His gaze landed on Izuku, who still had tears in his eyes and who held onto his hand but still he shoved Izuku off of him and he mustered up enough courage to tell Izuku " No. No you can't Izuku. You heard him. Quirkless people are weak and pathetic. You can't be a hero if you're quirkless Izuku" Izuku scrambled off the ground and held onto Katsuki's arm again "y-yes I can! I can train extra hard! W-we could be the best heroes together! I-I can still be your sidekick!" With a harsh kick to Izuku's side, Izuku fell down on the pavement with wide eyes. How could his best friend say that? How could his best friend do that? How could his best friend lie and say the news wouldn't upset him then turn around and get upset? Katsuki saw the look of hurt in Izuku's eyes and before he could explain any further he was dragged away with the rest of the kids with quirks. Izuku stood up and wiped his tear filled eyes and walked away from the playground, he kicked a rock alongside the road while walking away. ' I hate this playground ' was the last thought he had before he made it home. He stood in front of the small apartment complex to see it up in flames, people were wrapped in blankets and sitting in the back of ambulances. "M-mama?" Izuku called out, there was one ambulance with a woman on the stretcher, Izuku made his way over there and saw dark green long hair with ash in it, he instantly recognized the woman "MAMA!" The Emt's saw the small boy run over to his mother on the stretcher holding onto her hand "Mama, where are you going?" Inko gave one last smile and rested her hand into the curly hair of her son's "I'm sorry Izuku" was her last words. "Mama? Mama!!" Izuku cried out, he turned to one of the Emt's "Why is Mama sleeping? Where are you taking my momma!?" Izuku asked, not giving enough time for the strange people to answer his question, Izuku clutched onto his mom. The stretcher was low enough so Izuku could climb onto it and lay next to his mother, cuddling into her side , clutching onto her shirt with a strong grip. Before drifting into sleep, Izuku mumbled "Mama's okay. I'm not leaving Mama"
