The sounds of my shoes pounding against the sidewalk on my way home from school.
I didn't know it then, but on this day my entire life would be crushed before my eyes.
Walking into the house I was greeted by the door being open.
"Mom! Dad! I'm home!"
My 7-year-old self, screamed from the door. It's how I greeted my parents Everday.
The house stood still, no answer. It was so quiet you could quite literally hear a pin drop.
I walked up the steps, the floorboards creaking under me. God we have to get those fixed...
I thought.
"Mom? Dad?"
A cough, a singular cough echoed in the hallway from their room
Oh! now I get it! We're probably playing hide and go seek again, we did that a lot.
"Mom! you can't hide for long!!" I yelled, striding towards my parents' room.
As I opened the door, my heart dropped I felt the vomit forming.
When I looked at my father's lifeless body on the ground, drenched in blood.
"DADDY!?" I yelled, screaming for him to wake up.
I ran over to their phone on the left side of the bed, but my foot caught on something, causing me to crash down on something soft, something warm.
I looked down at my mother...
My white-collar shirt painted a bright crimson color.
