When Namjoon came to, the first thing he saw was Jin's concerned face. He felt that he was lying down, probably on a bed, with his head facing towards his left. Jin was sitting on a chair, unfolding his crossed arms as his look of concern was slowly replaced by one of surprise when he noticed Namjoon was waking up.
"Namjoon-ah," Jin breathed, his eyes going all over the younger, "you're awake."
Namjoon blinked slowly, needing his time to wake up. It was dark in the room, but not dark enough that he couldn't see. He wondered what time it was. How long he'd been out for. Jin sounded surprised to see him awake, so maybe it had been a while.
As soon as he tried to move his hand, all feeling came back to his body and the pain in his head hit him like a truck. His head was swimming and he groaned, pressing his hand to his forehead.
"Hey, it's okay. You're hurting, aren't you? I'm going to get a nurse. They will give you painkillers. It's going to be okay, Joon."
Namjoon barely registered the words. His head was positively pounding and he swore he was going to explode. Because of the pain in his head, he hardly noticed how much the rest of his body was hurting. Everything else felt like it was aching, but he couldn't really process any other feeling than that of the piercing pain in his head.
Jin was gone for probably not even a minute, but hours seemed to have passed while Namjoon suffered in pain. When Jin came back, he looked struck with worry. He put a hand on Namjoon's shoulder, comforting him with soft words. Namjoon didn't really understand why Jin was acting like he was some sick child, until he noticed he was crying. How... when...? Namjoon hadn't even noticed... but his face definitely felt wet with tears.
"There you go, that will make you feel much better, hopefully," a new voice said. Namjoon had only half a mind to understand it was a nurse who had spoken. The nurse was gone before he knew it.
He was in agony for what couldn't have been longer than twenty minutes - but to him it felt like hours - when the pain finally started to subside. The nurse must've given him something, but he didn't fully understand how or when.
Namjoon was still sniffling, but he had stopped crying. Thankfully. He felt embarrassed at the idea of crying for so long in front of his hyung. Even though logically he knew crying was nothing to be embarrassed of, let alone when your head is splitting in half, but hey. His brain wasn't really working properly right now, okay? He wasn't exactly acting on logical thinking.
"Hyung... where are... the others...?" was the first thing he asked. His voice sounded slow, reminding him of the sound of videos in slow motion.
Jin smiled at him, his face softening. He gently pulled his hand out of Namjoon's grasp – huh? When had he grabbed Jin's hand? – and wiped the stray hairs out of the younger's face. "They're downstairs in the hospital restaurant. They hadn't eaten in a while, so I sent them away. They've been here all day."
Namjoon paused, looking at Jin blankly.
All day?
He thought perhaps a few hours at most... but he seemed to have been unconscious for way longer.
"Hyung, h- how long...?"
The soft smile on Jin's face turned downward into a frown. He lowered his hand and looked down, his whole posture screaming sadness. It took him a moment to collect his thoughts. He clenched his fists before sighing and raising his head to meet Namjoon's eyes again.
"You were out for quite a while, Joon. The break-in happened five days ago."
"Wait... what...?" he mumbled, unsure if he had heard that right. Everything was a mess inside his head and in all honesty, Jin could've said anything and Namjoon might not have understood it.
