Holding onto mk's back, they drive through the city. The dazzling night is meaningless to moh because it pale in comparison to mks starry eyes.
The moon slightly glistens on the wet street, the lamposts adding an alluring light to the night.
Crickets Humm softly with the sound of buzzing radiators.
"Hey, mk.. how many deliveries did you say there was?" Moh asks sweetly as a gental breeze sweeps the sweat off her face.
"Oh, about 3!" Mk replies to mohs inquiries.
Moh opens her mouth to speak, but before she can, mk makes it to his first stop.
With each stop, he delivers the noodles with a smile. A scowling old lady smiles when she sees mk, a single mother hands mk a huge tip, a little boy gives mk a mint from his pocket.
Wherever mk went, whoever he was with, he seemed to have the trust of the citizens.
That is something Moh admires more than anything.
"Those are all the deliveries for tonight. We did great!" Mk says ecstatic, leaning to stretch his back.
"Well, I sure didn't do much," Moh chuckles, embarrassed.
"Sure you did! You kept me company!" Mk replies with a warm smile.
A moment of silence happens as Moh thinks to herself, watching water dribble from a restaurants water spout.
"Here.. you know what? Let's get some late night boba! On me!" Mk retorts celebratory.
Mk rounds the corner to a shop called "floral treats"
The place is small, clearly family owned. The letter t on the glowing sign has long since burned out.
Moh is then reminded of a previous question that has been digging at her.
"I'll take a 50% sweetened oolong tea with just the regular bubbles, please!" Mk says, grinning at the worker.
Moh sighs and decides instead that she should focus on her order.
Moh blurts out the first thing on the menu.
"May i please have a green tea boba?"
"What type of boba?" The impatient worker asks
"Oh, uh, just the regular stuff, please." Moh replies dazed
"Size? How sweet?" The worker looks at Moh with discust.
"Oh, im so sorry... erm how about a small with regular sweetness." Moh says, copying what she heard mk say.
"Will that be all ma'am..?" the worker rolls her eyes
"Sure will be! " mk replies cheery.
The atmosphere shifts when he says that, and suddenly, the workers' gaze softens.
"Your order will be out shortly!"
Mk leads moh to a small circular table for two. It has some crumbs on it, but mk whips it off with his sleeve
"This has always been my favorite table here," mk says, breaking the silence.
They sit down.
"You come here often?" Moh asks, resting her head on her arms.
"Oh yeah! Totally! The boba here is top-notch!" Mk replies with a cheesy grin
"How did you even find this place? Its kinda hidden around the corner." Moh asks curiously.
Mk pauses to think.
"Pigsy used to take me here when i was really little... I guess it's our special spot!" Mk chuckles.
"I guess i really never thought about it... but when I first met my best friend mei, we used to always go here during the summertime and order the wintermelon boba!. " mk closes his eyes and leans back in his seat, overcome by nostalgia
"Wow, it's crazy how much history you have here! I wish i could relate, but me and my childhood friends kinda drifted apart when i moved to megatropolis. " Moh sighs.
Mk notices mohs' discomfort and sits up.
"Sometimes it's just best to appreciate being in this very moment. Sometimes, it hurts knowing they aren't the same people now, but we can still love and cherish the time you had with them no matter how small."
"Thank you, mk," Moh says as her cheeks flood with red.
Moh doesn't quite like her boba since she didn't exactly know what she was picking. Moh tries to pretend to enjoy her boba.
They both watch as the store lights flicker off. So mk leads Moh down the road.
"Uhm, not to impead or anything, but you're a monkey, right?" Mk looks down at his feet sheepishly.
"Oh yeah! What about it?" Moh asks innocently
"Well, im not sure you know this, but I've developed this sorta... power?"mk gets really embarrassed.
"Wow, that's so sick," Moh says, slowing down her walking speed to match his.
"It's kind of embarrassing to ask, but.. I'm not sure where it comes from, and it scares me sometimes."
Mk considers his next words carefully
"I know it sounds silly, but I guess it's just comforting seeing someone like me."
Moh gives mk a subtle reassuring smile while she figets with her tail.
"It's not embarrassing to talk about for me! If you wanna know, being a monkey is just part of me, and it doesn't change who I am, and it likely doesn't change who you are either. Monkey tail or not, you're still just mk."
"So you dont think there's something.. wrong with me? I mean, it's not exactly normal to turn part monkey if you know what I mean. " mk shifts awkwardly.
"Sure, it's something most I have never seen before, but that just makes you special."
Moh pauses, looking for the right words
"Mk, it's what makes you.. you!"
Mk looks back down to his sneakers as if trying to solve an internal puzzle.
"You know.. It's getting late. Let's just... head back, " mk says as he stands up roboticly.
Moh notices the shift in his deminer and figures she may have overstepped.
Moh chastises herself internally for saying all that sappy stuff.
"What do i know about this stuff... its not like I have to transform or anything." Moh thinks to herself kicking a pebble.
They walk home in silence while mk looks at something that seems so far away, an internal battle is etched on his face
When they round the corner to pigsy noodles moh is very awkward but mk doesnt seem to notice.
The shop is closed and mk rushes upstairs to the safety of his bed.
Moh remains restless tonight.
