The twilight skies broadened over the capital of the United States, as the city slowly, but, surely fell asleep for the night, awaiting the dawn of the next day to arrive. However, sleep was the least of the manifestation of the city's concerns, for her eyes were set on the Capitol Building, standing tall and grandiose over her. A sense of urgency fell over her, needing to get the work she had left behind.

Stepping up to the doors in front of her, Washington D.C. agitatedly attempted to pull them open, though sweat was seemingly rushing down her hands, causing them to slip off. Panic slowly set in. She felt desperate, but, didn't know how to resolve such a feeling. She attempted once more, in hopes that she can relieve her worries and resume her once peaceful night.

Before she could even lay a hand on the handle, a sudden creaking sound and the door opening subtly followed, revealing the interior of the building. A sense of unease and confusion filled her, though curiosity still managed to find its way towards her. Unnerved, The District of Columbia stepped foot into the Capitol, clutching her belongings beside her in an act of caution.

D.C. ran through the empty Capitol, her shoes leaving behind clacking sounds as she hurried through the establishment. The eerie atmosphere of such a dark structure sent chills down the city's spine. She let out a sigh as she climbed up one of the staircases and down a hallway.

As always, the building remained in such proper care since it was first established in the 17th Century, being notably one of the first United States government buildings since the nation's birth. Her love for the Capitol has only grown since then, having such fond memories of the area.

Turning towards a room near the end of the hall, she pushed downwards on the handle, allowing herself in. In front of her stood a large marble table with vacant chairs gathered around the piece of furniture. The room was a second meeting area for her and the States (as well as the Territories) to discuss matters regarding issues with the aforementioned States, Territories and her City alike.

Her gaze anxiously shifted around the table, in search of the files she so desperately was looking for. Within a few seconds, her eyes locked on some files within a cream coloured folder near the end of the table. Her sense of panic was replaced with relief as she could finally go home afterwards and get a good night's rest.

Hurrying over to the table, she extended her arm in an attempt to grab the item when a sudden noise came from behind her. The sound of meowing could be heard, causing her return to her startled state. As she slowly turned around, she noticed a Cat lying on its back, seemingly having a playful expression.

The Feline's fur was a solid black colour with its eyes being hazel. "Hello there! Who left you here? I thought there were no pets allowed in the Capitol." She muttered, stepping closer to the animal. As soon as she set her foot down, the Cat seemingly vanished from her sight. Confusion returned to her, but, the feeling was short lived as she heard a meowing coming from behind her once more.

This time, the Cat sat on the carpeted floors, licking its paws, expressionless. The Cat just continually meowed, just watching D.C. with its large eyes. Taking a step once more, the Feline disappeared once again. Her gaze began shifting around the room once more in attempts to locate the Kitten. Her breathing quickened as her panic set in once again.

She could hear the echoes of the animal, as if it were taunting her. Though, it also seemed as if it wanted to send a message to the woman, like it wanted her to leave the establishment. The sounds soon had an annoyed undertone to it as she could only just stand there in shock. She began walking backwards and soon bumped into the table behind her.

She felt as if this were a horrid nightmare. She knew this felt foolish to be afraid of, but, something felt off about the situation. Something she was unable to place her finger on. Without looking, she reached for the documents on the table and rushed out of the room, the door left open.

Even with her dashing through the empty halls, she could still hear the echoing of the meowing sounds, except, they sounded more distorted if anything. The animal began sounding less like a Cat and more like a poltergeist. Its meows became screams of horror which could instil fear in its beholder.

Her heart felt like it was lodged in her throat as her breathing began to quicken far more than before. A glowing red light soon emerged from the staircase in front of her, instilling more anxiety into her. Soon, a shadow-like figure descended down the stairs and onto the floor, its glowing red eyes being the only source of light emerging from the darkness.

It was still the Feline from earlier, except, its appearance was off. It seemed angered at Washington D.C., like she had committed a heinous act. All she could do was walk backwards towards the exit, horrified of what's to come. "What are you? I'm certain you are no Cat!" The Feline just walked towards her before hissing at her.

"Get away from me!" She exclaimed, readying herself for any actions she may need to take further. She attempted to ready her powers, however, the pressure of the situation caused her powers to be unable to activate, leaving her with her combat skills. She lunged forward in an attempt to catch the Cat, though, seemingly missed.

When she looked up at the Feline it had suddenly changed into a larger form, towering over the woman in front of it. Its fur still remaining a jet black colour and its eyes remaining a piercing red. With no attempts to fight someone twice her size, D.C. ran towards the door behind her and began pulling on the handles to unlock it.

Though, she found it was locked. She was unable to contact anyone in that moment in time. Letters and the newly introduced phone was all out of reach for her. She felt trapped. As the Cat tried to pounce on her, millions of thoughts ran through her mind. One of them being whether she would make it out of such a situation.

Abruptly, with a cold breeze and a slight mist, it vanished once more. D.C. could only stand there as if she were stone, shaken by the events that had just occurred. She began looking around the area, in search of the animal that attacked her, but, she ended up finding nothing but silence and a dark government building where her once joyful memories had become bittersweet

and an experience she will forever be haunted by.
